I started with WHFB back in the early 90's.  I loved my Dwarf army.  Then that gaming group broke up.  I stayed away from 40K for a number of years due to a bad experience the first time I played -- some of the players made the experience a turn-off.  Space Hulk was fun.

Space Marine (6mm) was cool.  Needing to own all the army books was not.  I stopped playing when the set-up was more important than actually moving the pieces and games ended after 2 turns.

I stopped playing WHFB because the gaming group that played it broke up.  And then new rules came out.  And new rules again.  I gave up.  I really wanted to play Middle Earth oriented battles.

Warmaster came along and I loved it.  I organized a Warmaster League at the hobby store.  This lasted until the first League finished after 3 months.  When we were going to start up the next League, the store owner moved us to another night and the League just collapsed because not enough people could make the new night.

Lord of the Rings SBG was awesome.  War of the Ring is even better!  I don't understand why War of the Ring can't be played with 10mm figures.  I get a similar thrill when playing WotR as I do when playing Warmaster.

I dabble on 40K, mostly because I like the fluff, and I like the conversions I can do.  But I don't study the rules and the army lists like the better players do.

So now I play 4 game systems: Warmaster, WotR, LOTR SBG, and 40K.

I am almost done selling off all my WHFB stuff.  Almost.

Well I started pretty late with tabletop games, cause I never had the pocket money as a kid to build an army (the old bretonnian men at arms were so characterful and cool), so I was left with collecting random GW WHF miniatures at birthdays and christmas. So I started painting quite early but never really cared for the game as I knew Id never have an army.
My gaming "career" :) started with Lord of the Rings after seeing the movies and reading the book. But I never really liked the idea of buying a rulebook with no idea whats in it and so I found the specalist games and found Warmaster. Tried it with a friend with cardboard cutouts and I was hooked when I saw the bretonnian men at arms which basically look the same like the old ones but in 10mm scale.

My friend took the other road and started Epic, which explains my guardsmen. :) Also I would say, with a unique sequence of play (for GW) and the many different strategies/options, Epic makes it as the best GW game for me.
(Not counting BB and SH as they are boardgames like Stomm said)
