Is warmaster now run by fans of the game?
« on: August 30, 2010, 10:30:57 PM »
Sorry if this is a silly question.

I noticed that the new high elf list was changed. There's no +1 to shooting for reavers or bolt throwers. It's explained why the team has chosen to change it, which is all great, and i totally agree with it.

Warmaster is different to warhammer, GW doesn't promote the product as much. We all know that warhammer suffers from game balance for this reason ....."to sell our new model we will make his stats and special rules very powerful."

I notice some of you are play testers.

What i was wondering was.......... How much control do they let you have? I'm going to assume the core rules are untouchable, i'm asking about army lists.

If you thought a unit was too expensive or cheap, or a special rule was too strong. Would someone be allowed to change it?
Or are you play testing new armies? I really like the ogre kingdom and beastmen lists. Good job there  ;D

PS. I'm hoping the fans/play testers do run the game. I think it'd be a great idea, as long as it didn't lead to anarchy.

We "run" the show through the Warmaster Playtest Team/Warmuster front. Essentialy material is looked at, poked at and played at by small core groups of differing composition before being tossed to the community.

Essentialy we adhere to the adagium that if the community dont "hate" it we can define something as being community approved which should allow you to play that army/those rules when playing "away from home".

More or less the only restriction we have in this is that we can NOT go the Warmaster Historical path for sollutions, which means that for some issues we either accept them for what they are, or come up with a playable sollution which finds support from the majority of the community.

Ok thanks Lex  :) Overall i do find the balance of the army lists much more even than warhammer.

So i'm guessing that high elves were deemed too powerful, otherwise they wouldn't have adjusted the army list.

I must admit i am struggling with my orcs, which is fine because i'm new to warmaster. But i do get the impression i'm not alone, there's a few tactics articles for orcs, and i've even heard someone say "use kislev as a proxy army". Don't the team want to poke at the orcs?  ;D (just make sure you wear gloves) ..... or is it one of those armies that i need to stick with, and it all suddenly clicks into place.

I've got some fences, walls and hedges like you suggested in another post. A good idea, when i reach them i wait until his cavalry charges me.

In my few games with orcs they've done ok but I have had to run what I think are pretty tooled up lists in a way that I haven't with Empire/Chaos. My lists tend to be very shaman heavy (no worries about command values to get their magic off), it's also had a lot of heroes to keep things moving. Of course going magic heavy does mean you're left hoping for some generous dice rolls... What I do like about the orc list is that it has to be played differently from the other armies I've got.
