Getting started with SG guide?
« on: April 10, 2025, 03:20:46 AM »
Is there a guide on here for each of the games with information like:

* PDF rulebook download
* List of compatible Citadel kits for the game
* List of compatible third party kits for the game
* Other things you need and where to get them: custom dice, templates, etc?
* Links to the main online communities for those games

I would love to be able to have enough stuff to play all of the SG games, maybe even enough for two players so I could get other people interested. I’m sure most of the information needed is out there somewhere but as time goes on and links go bad, it feels increasingly harder to actually play these games.

The communities have become more dispersed over the years, and it really depends on the game/s that you are most interested in. Epic has a Discord and a website with all of the resources needed - www.net-armageddon.org - while BFG has a Discord and a download pack with the rules and even some STLs for ships.

I'd recommend seeing if there's anyone playing near you. Where are you located?

Not far from you, Dave. Boston.

My thinking with these guides would be to let a new player get started with both Citadel and non-Citadel products so they could even potentially play in a Warhammer store.

EDIT: Dave, I'm the person who made all the SG communities on Reddit and I see you're now a mod of the Epic40k one. I think we may have spoken about Epic maybe 12-15 years ago.

Cool, I thought you had moved to the UK? Or am I thinking of another redditor?

Our group games monthly-ish down in Manchester, CT if you're interested. We also do a weekly painting night on Tuesdays from 7-9 on Google Meet. We're mainly Epic, but there's plenty of people with interest and stuff for Warmaster, Necromunda, Mordheim, BFG, MoW and others.

Oh, there's also Under the Dice Fest in May down in CT too. Big Mordheim games day, and I think they're planning on doing a WM tournament on Sunday.

I moved from the UK to Boston.

Nice! That's unfortunately too far for me with any regularity -- I don't drive and recent years my health requires me to be closer to home more than it used to. So I really don't travel much beyond the MBTA or a short train ride, but if I'm ever down that way I'll try and figure something out.
