Adepticon 2011: April 1-3 2011, Chicagoland, USA
« on: November 15, 2010, 05:10:57 PM »
Registration has recently gone live for Adepticon,  Chicagoland's premier primarily Games Workshop convention (we recently started branching off from being a solely GW based convention.)  In addition to the 40k and WFB events,  we have a decent slate of Specialist games events,  2 Lord of the Rings tournaments, some Flames of War,  Privateer Press,  Malifaux,  Warhammer Ancient Battles,  Legends of the Old West,  and more.

Convention Details

Location:  Westin Lombard. 2 Blocks away from the Chicago Battle Bunker.
There is a convention block of rooms in the hotel.

Date:  Friday April 1 - Sunday April 3, 2011.  There are some seminars on Thursday night as well.

Pre-Reg Badge cost:  $35 (I believe.  Website is having issues at the moment, or my computer is :P)  First 1000 badges pre-registered get a swag bag.  Over 550 badges pre-registered at this point already.

Specialist Games events of note.

Saturday:  3000 point Epic Armageddon Tournament:  Currently 10 tickets were available at the start,  5 have been sold.

Sunday:  1500 point Battlefleet Gothic Tournament:  3 Rounds.  20 spots,  5 tickets already sold.  2010 FAQ will be in effect,  draft or no.

Stupor Bowl III:  Saturday and Sunday.

I am the guy in charge of the BFG tournament.  We've had fairly good attendance in the past few years at about 12-14 players each year.  I'd love to max out our space this year.

As a note,  Tickets for the BFG and Epic events are selling quickly.  Only 3 tickets left on each of those events.  Weekend badges that are guaranteed Swag Bags (First 1000 badges) are also running low.

yep.  Epic was capped at 10 for this year and BFG is capped at 20.  We have 7 sold for Epic and 17 sold for BFG.  The BFG turnout looks to be better than the last few years.  IIRC the other years I've run it we've had 12-14 which isn't bad for a Specialist Game anyway.

Update.  Now that the 2010 FAQ is final,  it WILL be in effect.  The Space Marine and Eldar PDFs from the repository will also be in effect as will the version of the Tau CPF fleet that is out by the middle of February. We have a hard deadline of end of February for new rules sets to be allowed in any events at Adepticon so people have a chance to prepare for new stuff.

As a note,  while the Eldar PDF is legal,  I'm not sure it's going to be needed as there are no refits going on in this tournament and there are no attacker/defender scenarios so the Spire isn't probably going to see play either ^_^

Hi!  Quick question for you.  Last year, I had a ticket for the Epic tournament.   I played in the BFG tournament, but the Epic games seemed to be just people playing each other.  After being the odd man out since I traveled so far (from Guam) I toured the other games in the area.  After one round, everyone packed up and left.  Will the Epic game be more organized this year with real scenarios rather than just a bunch of guys playing each other?  After seen past years event's where it was very formal, I was a bit put off by the experience.

What will the judging criteria be for the event?

Thanks!

I'm not in charge of the epic this year but AFAIK this IS a full 3 round 3000 point tournament this time around.  Believe me.  I wanted it to be a tournament last year but got shot down due to questions on whether the tickets would sell due to the fact that the 2 years I was in charge of the event,  there were 3-4 players in it with no fault to myself.

That being said, minor topic change to the BFG tournament.  All the documents that the group here is working on WILL be legal where applicable (IE eldar spires and Tau orbital cities aren't going to be useful in this thing).

If things go well I WILL be finally seeing IA 10 tomorrow and reviewing those rules.  I will make the decision on the legality of THOSE ships shortly.
