the 10mm Pendraken fantasy range
« on: February 14, 2011, 01:34:34 PM »
Only just found their website. They have a big fantasy 10mm range, but most are without pictures  :-\

Are they usually a good quality miniature?

In particular i'm thinking of buying additional dark elf troops, and maybe the amazon Queen on litter with slaves. But no photo.
Anyone got any photos of the dark elf pendraken range? or any painted pendraken?

About pendraken miniautres (my personal opinion):
historical range is really good. In a style a little different of GW.
Fantasy range is good. A little oversize, and style different of GW. I like it, and makes original and different warmaster units. It is a lot cheaper than GW.

I suggest to you to make an order, not too big, just few characters and a unit or two, and judge by yourself.

You can also look at the Pendraken forums.  There is a "Fantasy&SciFi" area, as well as a place where folks (such as JChaos) post pictures of their painted stuff.

You can also request pictures in the "General Pendraken" thread, and Leon will find photos of what you are looking for.

But yeah, I wish they had more phots on their website.

I have plenty of Pendraken figs from the historical ranges (Romans, Normans & Rennaisance mostly). Nice figures, but usually only 2 or 3 poses per pack, so maybe a little limited.

The Later Romans are by a different sculptor, and have more poses, and are generally excellant.

I gather the Fantasy range are rather more 'heroic' in look and scale. Certainly the wizard I have from that range was instantly christened 'Hagrid' when he arrived ... :)

BTW, Pendraken are supplied as single figures, rather than the strips that GW do. That may matter to you.

Cheers, Martyn

I think kallistra use the same molds but do the models in strips.

Kallistra owner is a old school mate of Dave (owner of pendraken). As far as I know (or Dave told) he shared some fantasy range to kick off kallistra. So kallistra stripped them and make little modifications.

Kallistra once started develped their own figures, a original historical range.

Pendraken fantasy range (not historical) is a little oversize (11-12mm) so kallistra continue with this mesureament for his historical range.

To sum up: kallistra is a little bigger than 10mm.

Pendraken has various sculptors. One of them aka Clibanarium, has a really good quality and has made the range of late roman period. Now is involved in XVII /XVIII century ranges. Clibanarium is very imaginiative and gives good solutions to mould problems. An example is his beautifull and outstanding "cataphract" reference. The hourse has sculpted the legs of the rider. In other part is the body (torso + arms and spear). You could simply attach/assembly the rider torse and the figure mould could be made with the long spear in a original position.
