Necromunda centric World's end radio ep 17
« on: April 18, 2009, 02:20:22 PM »
Hey all, I started this discussion on Eastern fringe but I thought I'd continue it here. World's end radio has posted episode 17 which gives a good overview of Necromunda.
http://worldsendradio.com/

This can't be anything but good for the game. I wonder if this will result in  a spike of new gang activity. I know I was seriously considering picking up BFG after they're BFG episodes.

Interestingly they cite a lack of good terrain and appropriate bitz as a major reason why Necro is underplayed.

The fact the rules state WYSIWSG and most players including myself want to have it to make it a nightmare, I am lucky in that I am willing to buy all the possible models I will need but most players, inc my friends arent so lucky (and thats why they stopped playing I suspect)

I really wish I could get cheap modular terrain instead of building my own as I lack the skill required to build a great board.

We can simply hope that GW spends a month pimping out the specialist games range

its only a nightmare when you try to load your ganger with everything but the kitchen sink on a single figure

Some of the new Planet Strike terrain that's released in July might prove useful (though probably expensive).

Building terrain, especially for Necromunda, is very simple and can be done on the cheap. There are articles about building terrain all over the web and if you make the mistakes, you can always model it into "battle damage" or play off the fact that the underhive is full of decrepit, leaning, beat up buildings.

I'd never use the planetstrike terrain for Necro, just because of the pricing.

As for the WYSIWYG nature of Necro, I feel your pain. I think this rule helped kill Necro more than any other. If they had produced plastic models for the 6 house gangs and the 3 original outlanders, there would have been alot easier time for players to maintain their gangs within the rules. As it was, your models weapon loadouts could change almost every game depending on new skills, attribute bonuses, or swapping to arm new gangers.

I picked Spyrers as my first gang specifically to not have to deal with that nonsense at all, when I eventually started playing Cawdor, it turned out to be the worst descison possible due to their skill sets vs. what the models were armed with. Too this day, I still peruse the Warhammer fantasy lines to see if any of their human milita or military troops could be converted into Cawdors, but with the masks and hoods the orgininal figures wore, it's just to much trouble for a game too few of my friends want to play anymore.
Whomever said violence wasn't a solution obviously wasn't using enough.

i do agree. Most terrain that is already pre-made is either too expensive, or is more geared to a single level type playing field. most buildings made tend to be "enclosed boxes  with details added" and not open enough for Necro needs IMHO.  I find the best stuff to make Necro terrain is the Hot Wheel or Matchbox car garages, however, i do  have to deal with the sloped ramps as alot of these are too angled to keep the figs from sliding back down. I also tend to use alot of plastic CD racks with empty CD cases glued into the appropriately spaced slots for floors.or if i run out of CD cases i have also cut thin sheets of wood instead.

i think the most detemental aspect of the game for me is finding  people who DO play the game, and want to play on a consistant basis...and of course trying to get our scheduals to match up.

Over the years i tend tyo just spend more time making figures and terrain or other modeling projects...even if i dont get to actually use it.
