Raising AI's Profile
« on: August 09, 2011, 06:29:22 PM »
Greetings,

I'm interested in what ideas you have for raising the profile of this game?  Let's stay focused on things that the community can do without the help of FW to start off with.

Thanks!

Okay, scratchbuilding will do NOTHING but ruin the game. Why? because without support from Forgeworld, the game does not exist.

To increase the profile of the game, you need to spread the game. This means convincing others to start it.

How to do that? promote what makes AI great.

1. Compared to other GW hobbies, it is cheap, costing about the same as Battlefleet gothic.
2. The miniatures are gorgeous
3. Just about every aspect of air combat is covered
4. the actual rules for the game are 16 pages long, making it EASY AS SPIT to learn.
5. The mini's work in Epic.
6. It has a much faster pace then any other GW game
7. It is much more tactically intense then most other GW games
8. just about all factions who would have an airforce are represented.
9. it is easy to spread, and the miniatures are easy to store.

Yeah, I love to scratchbuild stuff and make up my own rules, but unless people actually pay FW for the models, they aren't going to be inclined to do anything with AI.

I'll add on...

1. It doesn't require terrain to play!
2. Quick, quick, quick! (Games can be set-up, played, and packed up in less than 2 hours!)
3. Fits great into existing campaigns!
4. Helps create the full picture of 40K combat
5. Easy to paint.  Few models per side, and relatively flat surfaces.
6. Easy to transport as you have a handful of models

last but not least....

FUN!

These are all great reasons to play.  I think a good way of spreading the game is to set up demo days at your local game club (if you have one).  If you have two fleets of your own then you can put on a demo and show off how great the game is.  I've been talking with people down at my FLGS and have a few people that are interested and one person that actually has planes but hasn't played.  I've also talked to the shop and found out how I can do demo's at the store.  So next is just getting a free weekend to run it.

Good point.

I tlake dto my local shop, and they flat out told me that Forgeworld isn't worth their time.  I guess it has somethign to do with their Trade Sales agreements aren't very profitable to the stores.

I guess that could hurt AI sales if no FLGS carry it or are that interested in getting it.

Facebook group
Google+ circle
Moving all the http://z8.invisionfree.com/Airspace/ discussion here. You're not going to get brand new players finding and registering on the other forum board half as easy as you'll get other BFG/Epic players to come down a few sub-forums to see what all the posts and fuss is about.

The wiki needs to open up to edits by anyone - moderated of course.

In addition, we need to pick one of the Player Finder options and steer everyone in the same direction to keep the database of players as complete and current as possible. That means not having a separate, new "Player Locator" thread on each forum. Centralize the database on one of the following (copy/pasted, my apologies):

http://warhammerswede.blogspot.com/2011/11/how-to-find-players.html

I've been working on solutions. Best I can find is these:

* Google gaming stores. Use the Games Workshop store locator. Google "" and all the games you're interested in. Keep in mind that people who play a well-spread game like Epic 40K might be open to BFG or AI. 40K players might be interested in Necromunda or its fan-made variants that they don't have to buy stuff for. Fantasy players will be interested in Mordheim etc.

* http://nearbygamers.com/ - Probably the biggest of the "let's make a database for gamers" websites.

* http://www.accessdenied.net/ - Nicely set up, but seems to have a lot VERY OLD information.

* http://www.meetup.com/ - Good for lots of popular things, not so good for trying to find people to play old board games/wargames with. If you want something not just for wargaming, this is it.

* http://needgamers.com/ - New startup that looks great. But not so great once you realize the guy who's operating it is just doubling up on the work already done by people on the three above websites.

* http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?372312-A-List-of-Player-Finders - Where I found most of this, some dead links, and the RPG one is a non-functional website (process died halfway through registration).

* www.boardgamegeek.com is a great website, but sadly not much in the way of finding players. They really should have put a map up and let people network.
