Shortest. Game. Ever.
« on: September 18, 2011, 07:01:24 AM »
Introductory game between two players who have never played before.  I've read the rules, that's it.  I had three chaos fighters squaring off against two thunderbolts.  As it happens we both deploy at altitude 8 and full speed, and both use straight ahead manouevres, bringing us into medium range with each other.  Opponent has initiative and fires, hits three times, fails to damage.  I return fire and shoot one of the thunderbolts from the sky.  The other thunderbolt fires and wiffs.  Return fire then blows the other thunderbolt away.  Game over and we haven't even finished one turn.

Heh.

Thats.... unfortunate for a first game. Most games have a lot more depth that this, and I hope you will have at least a second.

Looked at the classic 1969 movie Battle of Brittain yesterday....   what you describe is VERY much the way the early encounters between english and german planes over the channel ended........

Short games like that is a great excuse to order another round and then set up the table for best of 3.

If you want a demo game to last longer try different opponents.  Im talking about 1 hit aircraft vs multi hit aircraft.  Hellblades are good on attack but thier 1 hit point means they cant take any punishment.
Good craft to teach the basics.   Tau barracuds,  Imperial thunderbolt, Imperial Lightning, Ork fighta.
I left out eldar because they are just as tricky in AI as they are in bfg.  Not a begginers airwing.
Chaos only has 1 hit fighters,  unless you convert a thunderbolt to the ruinious powers of the warp.

Hmmm, I guess you learned something from this game.  Head-to-head is very deadly.  Just like in a real aerial dogfight.

Sounds like it is time for a rematch, I bet he won't try that again.
