Not being a naval player myself, how do these scale with Man o War and Uncharted Seas minis? Might they see action as cinematic flagships? Or are they too big for that?

On its own, the box set seems too specialized to be anything but itself. You couldn't just go ahead and build a naval game from it, the way you might do with BoFA or Space Hulk.

I've been tempted, but in the end I find the miniatures a bit too over the top and I suspect there will be too much randomness in the rules for me to stomach.

The Dwarf ship is quite in scale with MOW to be an "Admiral" class ship. Looks like a good hybrid battlecruiser/aircraft carrier which is the sort of bizarre abortion GW and the Russians love. 

I don't have any other MOW fleets for comparisons.
