Unfortunately they disappear too. It's clearly mentioned in the disability rules.

My dice always seem to desert me when I roll for instability.  It never seems to fail that when I'm down to one stand left in a unit, I roll a "1".  Pop!  All gone!

Yes, the characters are removed as casualties as well.

I do have to admit, I was able to get my sorcerer to bring one stand back to a full unit in one round of spell casting by using the Rod of Repetition and the Summon Daemon spell.

:)
Rolling 1´s is "a bitch".

On the other hand, one can forget to roll for instability an entire tournament.  ;)
And thereby disqualifying one self. :(

Ooops!  Yeah, that would be bad.

For a while, I had a string of battls in which *any* wounded unit would be eliminated due to instability.  But lately I've been laughing with the Chaos gods, instead of cursing them.  It seems to have improved my instability rolls.

They were just lonely and wanted company.  Must have been the "Hello Kitty" bad dreams... purr.

Gentlemen.....you forget one major thing !!!!

You allways role for instability at the beginning of your turn....but you forgot that a Hero does not count anymore as attached to a unit at the beginning of your new  turn (you attached the hero your previous turn)....thus said and keeping in mind only the unit will disappear and the Hero will stay alife  8)

Cheers

Sorry, Claus, I have thought the same thing (bkz it seems natural) but when re-reading the book I found that the LRB doesn't describe the moments when characters leave the units before 'moving characters' sub-stage excepting when units move leaving the characters in place (and we forgot to clarify this issue when preparing the Errata  :( ).
