Been a while so I thought id post up an overlord that ive been working on to complement the retribution and to show the red/brown wash, which btw Im liking much more than the red/black thanks BlackEd! Not quite done yet im still trying to figure out what I want to do with the engines as ive never been fond of the plastic imps deep recesses and I still have some blending to do.

Prow on, switched to blue for lighting instead of yellow

Close up on the bridge, decided on making the "dome" like a giant glass cap instead of the more traditional metal after reading some rt.

Rear view, I think tomorrow the search for tiny dowel begins ::)

Prow shot, must... buy.... better..... camera The brown wash really came out well on the prow/fins/bridge areas that I highlighted in the brighter red, the main hull was painted black w/ white highlights then washed red then again red/brown, engines and weapons are grey w/highlights and then a very light brown wash to dirty them up the lights are blue over white with a light wash of dark blue to highlight areas of reflection... still on the edge about this as Ive only ever done this on tanks, but I kinda like the purplish effect on the red hull

*edit*

Added a bit more highlighting with light blue to brighten the"light" up and show the "dome" overpowering the natural light a bit more.

I filled in the rescesses a bit with some copper wire and painted up the engines in my  typical blue "warship" colors.

I really like the way it came out and I think the bulk of this fleet will be painted for table top in this fashion, now just to finish those firestorms and find some turrets for the battleship...

The ships are looking good!  I'm glad the red/brown is working for you.

Thanks Blacked.

Three more done! only two more to figure out  ;D

White prow and banding, need to blend the wash a bit still and cut down some of the blue in the rear.

Red prow and black, my favorite of the batch so far.

Grey prow with red banding per my wife  ;) need to cut the blue down a lot in the rear on this one.

The right rear had a casting problem with the engines  ::) so I painted it as damaged

Finally finished the Firestorm squadron.

The newest 2, I think the colors on these look good and I like how overall its not as busy as the earlier ones.

I cut down a lot of the extra striping on the sides and focused on bringing out the strong red color with just a bit of highlighting on weapons, engines, sensors etc.

I like how these came out, they're clearly from the same squad but each ship has its own personality which is something most escort squadrons seem to fail at what with all of them looking like carbon copies of each other.

Its just blue, I use folk art acrylics, you can pick them up @wal-mart here. I painted them with straight blue then thinned it from the center out with skull white/water with a swirl. I then dry brushed the blue back on to darken the edges and for the "glow" on the metal of the engines.

Finished with the first Tyrant, its very bright in the photos but not nearly so much so in person :/.

Prow shot, I went with a white scheme that I liked from one of the Firestorms for this ship on the prow and fins.

Side view, I like how the guns turned out on this one, black with grey highlights. The red received a couple washes of red/brown mix while the engines/Prow and fins received several light washes of brown. This makes the ship look more dirty than old, something I was looking for as at least one of the Tyrants are fairly "new" (at least by 40k standards).

Rear view, Terrible picture the engines received the same treatment as all of my ships. I went ahead and filled the engine holes on this one as well, I'm really liking the way that looks.

A bit of the fleet coming together.

Another fleet shot.

Tyrant and the Overlord, I'm going to go back and cut down the "halo" effect on the Overlord after seeing them together. I really liked this at first but it is way too much, this ship looks more blue than red with that on it.

I took some body in white shots of the Carnage I'm working on for the fleet :D. This has a prow Aquila added from milliput and the bridge has a winged skull and dome added. The paint had some weird cottage cheese look once it was dried tho  :( weird.  I really need to get around to putting the Retribution together too ::).

Prow on shot of the Carnage with Aquila and a winged skull over the bridge, not too sure about the skull, it may be a bit big :/ but so far I like it :D.

Painted

Side view.

From the rear.

Close up on the bridge, skull pressed from a backpack decoration.

Another shot of the bridge.

Overhead on the Aquila.

Another prow view.

The paint had some weird cottage cheese look once it was dried tho  :( weird.

Probably the can of primer was cold, there's too much moisture in the air when you sprayed, or you held it too far from the model when spraying and the paint dried in the air. Also make sure you are using a quality primer as well.

I really like what you are doing here with this model and I will guarentee that the texture is going to piss you off everytime you look at the damn model in the future. I suggest you drop her in some stripper and start fresh. I've picked up ore than a few horribly painted chaos cruisers in my time and stripped them for repainting. I personally use Castrol's Super Clean but any comparable degreaser should do the trick. Do NOT leave it in the degreaser more than 24 hours though otherwise you'll probably find the plastic degrading. Clean with an old toothbrush.
As we Imperials say, "The Emperor [class battleship] Protects..."

I'm using krylon which has worked well in the past for me, it might have been cold tho, its probably about 60f here. I think I'm going to roll with it and see how it looks painted, I can always strip it later if need be but after a water rinse it smoothed out a bit and the texture might work well for an aged effect.

The second Tyrant, hopefully I'll be done with the last one tomorrow or the next day I'm ready to paint something different :P.

So I'm getting started on putting the Retribution back together :).

As you can see from this picture GW's casting abilities are good as ever ::)!

After a significant amount of filing I have the fit as tight as I can get it without removing so much material that the weapons wont fit  :o.

Filled the stand hole with Milliput to prep it for the correct sized hole.

The new hole, formed by pressing the skinny end of a flying base stand (minus the fiddly bit that always breaks ::)) into the Milliput.

The base attached to the main hull, notice in the next few pictures the additional Milliput required to fill the approximately 1.5mm (1/16" give or take) gap  >:(.

In this last one you can see the small gaps filled between the 2 pieces of the main hull.

Nice fleet! I would like to see the group together when the time comes. I personally would consider a wash or watered down wash over the models, maybe a watered down black.  But, that's me and I wash everything. I am glad to see some more Firestorm action around here.

Thanks, I've got to get around and finish painting the retribution still I've been doing it in pieces in order to get behind all the overhanging bits. Once that's done I'll put up a few pics of what I have done, I still have a tyrant the vengeance and two groups of cobras to finish out the two thousand. Almost all of these have been washed with reddish brown a few of the firestorms were washed black and the red on the carnage is all washes to get the shiny smooth look. Is the contrast lacking on them? I know the bright ones are very bright and that's a bit off putting. Maybe u should try a thin ink on them hum....
