Last night, I had the opportunity to see a plan achieve resolution.
I tipped my WM General to my son for the first time.
I was running Chaos and he was using the Orcs, only 1500 points to a side. My list was made up of 4x Chaos Warriors, 4x Chaos Marauders 2x Mounted Marauders, Spawn, Harpies and a full set of Commanders. He ran 4x Boar Riders, 4x Wolf Riders, 2x Wolf Chariots, 3x Orc Warriors, 3X Goblins, General, 2 Orc Heroes and an Orc Shaman.
My battle plan was to move my two large infantry brigades onto a set of woods and a large hill to weather the assault of his cavalry, then using the Mounted Marauders and Harpies to aim for flank charges into his cavalry units once weakened/scattered by the assault. In uncharacteristically Orcy fashion, he managed to make the vast majority of his command rolls, and his chariots managed to pounce on one of my stalled infantry brigades in the open, destroying two units. His wolf riders and boar riders weren't far behind, and I ended up needing to throw my cavalry away just trying to weaken the massed cavalry targeting the remainder of that infantry brigade.
I sent my harpies after the three Goblin units in a last ditch effort to even the score, but only managed to kill one unit and weaken the other two before they died.
When we ran out of time, I was two units from breaking, with a unit of Marauders, a unit of Warriors, the Spawn and 2 stands of Mounted Marauders being charged from the front and back by all four Boar Rider units and two Wolf Rider units. I still needed to take down another three units. Given the situation on the table, I conceded the game to him.
I have had a long standing plan to grow my own gaming opponents - last night it came true!
