Thanks for the nice comments everyone, gives me some encouragement to get back to my painting desk

I notice you have hex grids. Do you have a whole gaming table of those?
It's Kallistra terrain (
www.kallistra.co.uk), modular hex terrain that looks great and can be easily stored - not cheap but perfect material. I can fill a table of 1.5m x 2.0m at this point if I use my (self made) river pieces. Now I'm working on some rock faces, I'll post some pics once they are finished, maybe of the complete table. A friend of mine is building an O&G village for a scenario that we'll be playing - a 7 player battle, all modular with the hexes.
I love the bold shading, which I guess is what you consider the screwup
which IMHO is very striking when used on the larger 10mm models !
I think I could have gotten the shading using a regular wash iso the quickwash. The quickwash has formed a few puddles at the bottom of the wings - that's the screw-up part for me. Using a regular wash would have given me more control and I guess the same effect. But the quickwash gives you this instant effect if it can simply run down, and then it's excellent material.
That's great work, is this a 'dipped' model? It looks great whatever method you've used. If there's some speedy secret to getting results like this I'd love to hear it, my Orcs are very silvery right now!
The shading is done using the Army Painter quickwash which is used as dip for larger models but for Warmaster I use a brush to have more control - still insufficient here aparently.
I did quite some highlighting on this model (my first real airbrush experiment), especially the wings and the wyvern skin. I have a quick way of painting Orcs up to a fair standard without having to highlight first, using the quickwash. I have some in progress at the moment, I will try to take some pics with the instructions in a separate thread.
What's he based on? It looks like a Gork shaped skull!
It is

Pretty sharp observation skills, congrats! I was looking for a good base that I could use to pin the model. Then there was this piece of wood with half a staple in there so I used a saw to get the Gork shape. The small rock piles are where his eyes would be.
