Which Add-On Necro rules do you use?
« on: July 27, 2009, 08:38:09 PM »

I am just getting back into Necromunda and Ive found out that there are so many rules PDFs available.
Apart from the LRB and GW PDFs, which add-on rules does everyone use?
Wryds, Hired guns ect?
And which should be avoided?

Well to someone as old in Necromunda terms as myself, what is in Necromunda: Underhive (the LRB) scarcely covers the whole game imo.  It is nothing without the old Outlanders Expansion, which includes:

The Outlaw Rules
Ratskin Renegades
The Redemption
Scavvies
Spyrers
Wyrd Hired Guns
Pit Slave Hired Guns
A Bestiary of some form - Nik Jacos' 3 Parter (Can You Hear That?) is better than the old Bestiary in my opinion, shame it doesn't have all the Xenos though.

All the above imo are vital inclusions into the Game, and after a while you and your gaming buddies may want to expand into the Ash Wastes, or include even more madness in your games.

There are a few things you can never get enough of, and those are Scenarios, extra Hired Gun types and extra oddball stuff like Vehicles and other oddities to add to your games.

The scope is only as huge as what you and your gaming buddies want to add to it.  The more you'll play the more you'll encounter stuff you'd like to add.  Most of the extras are useful, and even if they are a little unbalanced, it adds flavour to the game.  The best way to see if they are right for you is to try them.  If you like them you use them again, it's as simple as that.

My group doesn't use Underhive. We use the old rulebooks from the boxed game, or the re-released hardcover version.

My group uses all of these, minus the bestiary and Redemption. Redemption is pretty broken in its current form in my opinion. New players are highly suggested to start off with a basic house gang, just to keep things easier for everyone.

My list also includes Skills v2 found on this forum here: http://www.sg.tacticalwargames.net/forum/index.php?topic=268.0
This balances out the house lists quite a bit, making the Muscle table stronger and the Techno table a little weaker, and adding faq rulings and balances into many of the other skills. One major thing is Armorer was moved to a Heavy only skill set, meaning a gang is limited to having 2 armorers, and it's not just Van Saar who will be rolling in them.

I've just posted a thread in here with a link to a forum of pretty much all if not most of the missing PDFs:

http://www.sg.tacticalwargames.net/forum/index.php?topic=1006.0

There's some great stuff in there and it is unlikely that you can afford the ink to print it all off - until you're 50.

Generally like Steel Rabbit, I use the hardback, but that is mostly because Necro:Underhive is so god-awful and although a lot of the updates are better, the hardback is easier to carry around; which says something about the amount of stuff you can get.

Take all this to a print shop, it's easy, at least where I am. It's 3 cents US per double sided piece of paper, plus a dollar for the glued paperback binding. That makes the LRB only cost me ~$3us. I printed off 4 copies and passed them out to my friends, it's so easy. I left one unbound, and just triple hole punched it and slid it into a binder. I include all the supplements and articles in this binder, tabbed for easy finding. Don't blow your own ink cartridges when printshops will do it much easier, faster and cheaper.

Thanks for the idea Ravendas.  No idea if there are any printer shops near to me, but I'll find out.
