Warmaster at WHW 21st July
« on: June 28, 2012, 04:50:13 PM »
Hi all, Calmacil and I are planning to meet up at Warhammer world on the 21st of July for a big game of Warmaster, so far there Will be three of us there, would anyone like to join us?

We need to book a table or two but hopefully we can get space enough for a three a side battle...

Should we discuss the game in this in this thread? ...or keep that to private messages?

Things i'm thinking about are;
- Terrain we're bringing
- Scenario ?
- Number of tables
- Table size
- Total Points

Most of that will depend on the number of players we've got

As you say this depends on players but I would say that we(you!) book two tables. I can bring some buildings and walls and a couple of armies (Dark elves, chaos, empire). At a push I could bring a castle but perhaps a siege is a bit much to organise. As to points, say 4000 a side? I haven't played a big game before so will take advice happily. We should be there from ten onwards until seven

We've never done a WM siege before. I'd love to try one some day, but for an intro game i think it's best we try and keep it fairly simple.

Personally i'd prefer the game on one massive table, rather than 2 or 3 seperate games. I love seeing loads of units on a battlefield.

I've done one or two huge multiplayer WHFB games and i've learnt that it's best to avoid joining tables end to end in a long line (for example... 3 tables forming a 4ft x 18ft battlefield) When this happens you end up facing one opponent and battling him for the whole game. So a T-shape or a big square is my favourite. There's a table in whworld that's 10ft x 6ft that would be ideal.

Yeah, total points sound about right  :D  We could say 2k per player, and adjust that if we end up with an odd number of players. There could be a slight problem if we do individual Break Points, it would be an advantage for all the armies on one side to concentrate on one player so his army breaks. A solution is to just have a break point per side (you add up all the armies break point)

For terrain i've got plenty of hills, woods, a 4ft long river with bridge, village, buildings, cliff faces, stone spires, rocks. Just depends what we want to use, if we do a scenario

For those without access to Wargames Illustrated, there is a scenario for the Ardeness Offensive that playes in the LENGTH of a 3 table set-up, which might lend itself to conversion to Warmaster.

The original WW II setting has the German player making a big push towards the Meuse, working against a timetable and the need to capture some (fuel dump) objectives on the way, but this could conceivably be converted to any Warmaster army pushing into Enemy territory (or trying to break out of it    8)

Sorry guys, too short notice for me. I'd be up for a repeat towards the end of August?
Hope you all have a great day!

Thanks Lex, that sounds interesting (if a little fiddly in terms of preparation). Some kind of scenario/story would certainly be fun. I'm happy to play whatever kind of game people fancy though keeping things pretty simple appeals to me (so I agree, no seige despite its obvious attraction). I'm pretty sure that one of the Warmaster Mags has a description of a large game, I'll try to dig it out for ideas.

What armies do you have access to? As I say, I can bring around 2000 points of Chaos and Empire (mostly painted) and 2000 points of Dark Elves (which I could finish painting before the event). My friend (another Paul) has some unpainted Empire but I'd expect I'd be lending him one of my armies. I'll dig everything out and post some lists later so that we can make sure that everything is relatively even.

In terms of break point, I think a combined break point might be best as it would mean that no-one ended up being out of the game early. But, I've never played a large game of WM so I don't really know what I'm on about!

What armies do you have access to?
I have;
- 3000 points of Dark Elves, fully painted
- 3000 points of Empire, fully painted
- 6000 points of Orcs, everything painted

My friend (main opponent i play against) has;
- 4500 points of Bretonnians, fully painted

So we'd probably be on opposite sides because i use mainly evil armies. I'm enjoying using Dark Elves

There's also the potential for 3 more super subs  ;)
One friend has around 3000 points of Chaos, fully painted... not sure if he'd turn up, he might do. He refuses to play games at GW, I'll ask him at the weekend.

And another friend has 2000 points of High Elves, fully painted (he's very unreliable though, i've tried organising games with him before)

There's also another guy that loves warmaster and borrows my Empire army sometimes, he was going to buy it off me, but again he's unreliable

I'm guessing it'll be me and my friend with the Bret army

 Excellent news! How about an 'evil' army to fight alongside Calmacil(s Dark elves? Then we can take double Empire and Brets as the good guys.

Sadly this day of Warmaster goodness has had to be put on hold, our ambitous plans (working on the flawed theory that short-notice might get things happening) came to naught as the game dwindled from six or so interested players down to two!

The good news, for me at least, is that I'll still be in Warhammer World, now playing a mahooosive game of Epic Armageddon (albeit one with just two players). This time I think the Iron Hands may find themselves in trouble...
