Orc Archers?
« on: August 12, 2012, 06:57:29 PM »
Does anyone know the origins of these?

They look pretty GW-ish, but I've never heard of them in Warmaster scale before.

They look really good and I've never seen them either. Not really even sure what you would use them as in game terms, other then maybe goblin archers?

I wish that seller would have given a bit better of descriptions on some of the auctions. It would be interesting to know if he worked for GW, that was a pretty impressive collection of oop warmaster.

They had the exact style of strip-base as all other Warmaster shooting units, and the same general orc aesthetic which no other company has ever captured IMO (or at least they seemed to- not the best picture). I've trawled through as many 'rare' and 'unreleased' pictures as I can find though, and nothing matches them. Although I also can't find a matching unit from any other caster.

On the topic of trawling through pics- all of the old links in the WM catalogue appear to be broken, as they still go to the old site.

Tanks that worked !

4 figures per strip and AFAICT larger then regular orcs,my guess is these are 15 mm  fantasy.

Notice these are mounted on ONE strip, not snipable like most missile unit strips are and facing forward. I would suggest comparing them with 15 fantasy barnds to confirm

Also of interest is how blurry the photo is compared to the rest of the stuff he was selling.

They are 10mm fantasy range of Mark Copplestone. Reference TM7

http://www.copplestonecastings.co.uk/range.php?range=FAN

I have some of the range and they are great figures and fits perfect with GW.

I correct myself, I just saw the ebay auction, and wow 84 pounds, then I pay a little more  attention to the picture and they are kallistra orc archers Reference 103 .

Kallistra orcs are the same figures that sells pendraken as goblins, but mounted in strips and with slight modification in some models, like make the bow bigger.

Well, those sure look like the same figures.

But, I do have this dim recollection that GW DID release some Orc Archers, in late 2002 or 2003.  They may have been test sculpts or something, from before Rick & co decided to leave orc archers out from the army list.  I think Warmag suggested using them for siege games, or just admitted they were being released purely for fun.  I don't have my warmags handy, so can't check, I'm afraid.

Are you refering to goblin archers, or are you sure that fun figures were orc archers?

Someone got stung buying those!!!!

Even in "blurro vision," they do look like Kallistra or Pendraken. I know because one of our group from the Chorley area ('The Dog' on this forum to be precise) has a huge Orc and Goblin army using alternative, non GW figures from Kallistra and Coppletone and they look like those.

If I were the seller I'd send a bunch of second chance offers to the other bidders. :P
