Chaplains and Apothecaries in 3rd edition
« on: August 25, 2012, 03:51:03 PM »
Hey all,

I've had Space Hulk sitting on my shelf for too long, really want to get it out and have a play with it.  I must admit, I'm terrified to put paint brush to models , doubly so "limited edition" ones like these.

Me and an RL friend have always been discussing making terminators for different factions as a result of this, even just aesthetic ideas, for example, using blood letters instead of genestealers, and the new Grey Knight Terminators instead of the blood angels, things like that.  (Eventually he made a squad of partially corrupted Relictors to use in his 2nd edition set, mixing loyalist and Chaos parts.)  But I've just been uhming and ahing until now.

When we tried to think of new rules - we found that we were mostly just complicating what was a really smooth, brutal and efficient system.  But with the new Dark Vengeance models coming out - I found myself looking with admiration over the Deathwing models - wanting them at the very least for a basic loadout squad.  Then it fired up the 2 ideas we'd had that seemed subtle enough --- Having either an apothecary / sanguinary priest in terminator armour or a chaplain in terminator armour - possibly conferring a buff to nearby squad members in the same way that, say, the Captain lets you repick your action point chip.

Now I'm itching to buy the Termie chaplain model on ebay - and paint him up in Deathwing colours!

Does anyone have any simple rules for Chaplains and/or Apothecaries that they use?

And did anyone else get the same itch as me to dig out Space Hulk on seeing these guys?

Chaplains and Librarians had rules published in WD and the 1st edition supplements which has a rule set basically compatible with the 3rd Ed. I don't believe they did anything with Apothecaries. Check out a document called the Space Hulk Bible sometime.
As we Imperials say, "The Emperor [class battleship] Protects..."

I almost bought 2 of the new limited edition sets just for the terminators with a view to modding 2 close combat guys and a flamer.
But RL intervened :(

As Jimmy states the rules are out there so no need to reinvent the wheel ;)

The new miniatures from the dark vengeance box set look neat in the Hulk.
Loving my new deathwing squad. Going to convert another squad using this set as a base :)

Out of curiousity, how are you planning to convert the Heavy Flamer marine? =)

Use one of the deathwing marines and add a terminator flamer arm.
Same goes for close combat ones.
The models are full of iconography that will carry it off.

3rd Edition supplement' Mission Files' for Dark Angels (coincidently) has rules for using apothecaries in it. Not sure that Apothecary rules were ever published in any earlier edition supplements, but I could be wrong, so I don't know if any old/similar rules have ever been published in addition to the 3rd Ed. rules. MF also has rules for cyclone missile launcher and a bunch of other DA-specific characters in it.

Pretty sure that there was a 1st Ed. supplement that contained rules for Chaplains. Pretty sure I could dig them out from somewhere if I wanted to.

Also, I have a Dropbox folder with some cool PDFs in it. Totally unrelated to Mission Files of course...

PM me.
