Thanks for sharing! Looks like the generals cmd10 didnt do much in the game.  Also very lovely terrain.

My heart breaks, when I see dwarves trampled by cowards on horsies. I hope there are still a few pages left in the great book of grudge! :)

Thanks for your nice comments :)

Terrain was randomly generated, and well...  there was a big mountain also there too, occupying most of the table....

The open part was good terrain for cavalry, but it was exposed to possibles Artillery attacks. Anyway, next time we can try to put more terrain, no problem.

Yes, Dwarf player did not have much luck with the orders, and Empire got their flanking charge orders done.

Of course the dwarf player did make it easy on the empire by splitting up and taking soft things that don't have 4+ armor.

Dwarves can take on anyone in open terrain.

Hmm... I would discuss this statement.

According to my experience Dwarfs are very dependent on terrain.
And Warmaster as a game is very dependent on terrain.
The intention of designers was to play with terrain. Also hedges, fences and fords. For example to balance chariots against light cavalry (vide discussion about very small difference in points between Chaos Chariots and Horse Marauders).

This is really strong statement that Dwarfs can take on anyone on open terrain. But in the end it would be much nicer to just play, not discuss in writting :-)

@Getlord: I would say in this case it was an unlucky dwarven commander because with the knights exposed like that on one flank (pic 6) its not hard to get a few cannon shots into them with one or 2 orders. And even if you just take out one stand of 2 seperate units that pulls the brakes for those pesky knights.

But of course, the more terrain the better, my favorites are fields (like a forest except that cavalry and warmachines can enter, and within infantry can pursue cavalry) as they are not as intrusive as hills/mountains/swamps and they are pretty much everywhere a common terrain feature.

Oh, I am not saying terrain isn't important or more isn't better.

What I am saying is that the dwarven player took a weak list, spread out and was defeated in piece. You can make those errors regardless of fighting on a flat plain or Stalingrad style ruins.

The Dwarves in general, when they play to their core strengths, are capable of taking on any army - regardless of the terrain.

In my experience, dwarves against heavy cavalry in the open = dwarves tend to get mashed!
Dwarves defending a hill or some other terrain = dwarves tend to win.

ergo you need to play with more terrain for the dwarves to get a decent chance of winning.

One of our group (a very experienced warmaster general) has a large dwarf army and I've played against it scores of times and that's my experience anyway.

From both statements above I tend to agree with David rather than with Haranin ;). However of course I got the point. If you are experienced Dwarf general and the conditions force you to play against equally experienced High Elf general in the open you must really be careful not to tear out your beard in frustration...

Do not get me wrong. I know the army, I won the tournament with Dwarfs, even twice (never so succesfull with other army), so I really believe in them and I rather also know the strenghts and weeknesses.

My counter comments just coming from experience when two equally experienced generals meet in the field.

yes, I agree. One of the tough infantry in hill or terrain, tend to win, and also one of the best cavalry in open tend to win... make sense, and also I experienced that in some games.

But I think the point is to make a armylist, then generate randomly how many terrain and what type and the position in the table... Then play, so you need to adequate your list to the game that is generate randomly... then you could see how experience you are as a general.

This is true as long as you are sure the terrain will be deployed. If not, infantry based army is lost.

Nice report but the result  .... I mean who lost and who were winning....is mainly based on luck or bad luck at this game as you were using quite low point levels. Iguess 1.000 or max 1.500 points. At his gam size one lucky attack decides the game (my experience) and in 75% of the cases it´s the one who is doing the first charge as then there is not much left for the countercharge.

But once again ... nice report.
