Thanks guys :)

I finished painting and dipping a test High Elf Cavalry mini. It took me a while to complete as I chopped and changed my mind with colours, having to repaint over sections a couple of times before I was happy. Now I know what I want, the rest should be much quicker...

The colour horse I was aiming for is this;

...and here is what I came up with. The dip is still wet, which is why it looks shiny, however once its dry, I will spray it with Testo's Dullcote, which will give it a nice flat look, then I will touch up a couple of bits and I think it should look pretty cool. I've also got some 10mm scale decals for shields, so they should look pretty cool.

Thanks mate. Yeah sure, I've started on painting 15 more so when I get to the dipping stage, which will likely be this time next week, I'll take a pic just before dipping.

I like the black horse, don't know why I never did any.

Do you actually dip, or just paint the stuff on? Army Painter stuff?

Yeah mate, the Dark Tone Army Painter dip is what I use and for these High Elves, I've used the Army Painter Platemail Metal spray, which serves as both an undercoat and base coat. I then paint all the other colours over the top of that.

Whether I actually dip the miniature into the tin or not depends on the miniature. The Cavalry above were dunked fully into the tin and then I used a brush to remove any excess dip until it is at a level I liked. With the smaller single mini's though, like the alternate Swordmasters and White Lions, I simply brushed it on as a single dollop from the brush is enough to cover such a tiny miniature and dunking it in the tin seems like a waste of time and effort...you get the same results using either method...sometimes its just easier to dunk and other times its easier to brush on...

The test mini had dried enough for me to spray with Testors Dullcote this morning. I also added a shield decal and painted some bright blue on the gems, then finished off with another light coat of Testors Dullcote to protect that last bit of paint and the decal.

...and the other 15 are well on their way to the dipping stage.

Never used the dipping stage , effects are quite remarkable , possibly saving time on shading .
Cool .

A before and after shot as requested - and then the third pic is of a (different) mini after having the Matt Varnish sprayed on;

I still haven't decided on how I will base these guys yet. I use my 10mm for different gaming systems, so try to cater for all systems as best I can. At the moment I am leaning towards basing them 4 to a base on the wide edge and not 4 to a base on the short edge like is usual for Warmaster...not sure yet.

I'll just glue these guys to the bases and then paint the bases brown and apply the Vallejo Brown Earth mixture, drybrush with Vallejo Beige and then flock.

...and I've finished dipping the other 15 Cavalry. Just need to let them dry now before spraying with Testors Dullcote and painting light blue on the gems and adding shield decals.
