Skaven advice
« on: May 06, 2013, 11:18:16 PM »
I'm brand new to this forum and looking for some advice in light if specialist games being shutdown.

I'm going to pick up some gw bits that can't easily be proxied. Any advice what I should pick up? At moment I'm looking at rat ogres, a screaming bell and a couple of doom wheels and maybe some gutter runners.

I'm probably looking to play at around 2000 points. Pendraken look like they can cover plague monks, jezzails, cannons, clanrats and storm vermin. I'm assuming I'll also be able to get rat swarms sorted as well. How well do miniatures like those from pendraken fit with gw's models and how do you base them up? 10 to a stand like the warmaster models, or less?

Sorry for all the questions but I'd appreciate some advice from those with more experience than I have right now.

Thanks in advance.

Some of the items you want are available in other countries like here in the US but clan rats seems rare.
I need 3 clan rats myself and a bell.
Was thinking of musing clan rats strips with gutter runner strips to make clan rats cause gutter runners are still abundantly available in most locals it seems

Maybe we can order for each others and then ship them to each other?

I will be selling my surplus skaven soon, just some bits and bobs, some loose strips, some single minis, not much but it should help you fill the gaps guys :)

But it's an awfully expensive way to buy them... The A$ is too high and shipping will be a killer.

Yeah I thought as much - I think pendraken will do nicely for them anyway...

Hi Andydorman

here you can see some rats in the pendraken threat

http://www.forum.specialist-arms.com/index.php?topic=4118.0

I will try to make a picture of size comparation with a empire skirmisher figure (I do not have GW rats where around)

Can't help you with the number of stuff you need for 2000 points because I never have played with skavens, mabye someone around here can help you.

As far as I remember pendraken rats were way too big.

You could buy stormvermin (still available from GW UK) and just paint them up as clanrat?
Then use other manufacturers larger figures as stormvermin?

If it were me and I had the funds, I'd buy everything I need now and just be patient and watch on e bay for the missing bits. Or, if money were no object - trawl throught eh other nationality sites to buy the bits you don't have.

Although it'll be expensive, I'm sure you'll get your money back when you eventually come to sell them.

I've gone for a compromise - bought max units for 2k in rat ogres, gutter runners, jezzails and doom wheels.

Going to try proxies for rat swarms, clan rats and plague monks. I already feel a bit dirty having given so much money to gw... I could be looking at up to 8 units each of clan rats and rat swarms and that's just too much. I've ordered a blister of pendraken's small rats with swords and pole arms - at least they'll get added to the catalogue index if nothing else...

I have screaming bell, command pack plus couple of strips of plague monks and few loose gutter runners on the go. PM me if interested mate. Just played first game with my skaven for ages today, great fun although blunder in a critical moment cost me dearly.
