What is Kislev worth, now?
« on: July 17, 2013, 03:01:32 PM »
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Warmaster-fantasy-Kislev-Characters-metal-OOP-still-in-blister-/360691827731?pt=UK_Toys_Wargames_RL&hash=item53fae88413

Despite the incredible expense - with the money in my paypal account I have been considering buying the rare units in this guy's ebay auction that ends within the hour.  The characters, the war wagons and the bears are the things that are the hardest to proxy convincingly.

Knights I can proxy with the admittedly slim and samey looking Pendraken Polish Hussars.  Axemen I could replace with peasants, Bowmen with peasant archers, horse archers would be easy to proxy too.

But those special units are the most characterful in the range.  It's an insane amount of money, though.

I mentioned this in another thread, but I have a 300 club proposal from several years ago for bears in 10mm.

I have the near equivalent out of blister if you want. I've posted a thread somewhere around here about them.

@Wellspring

Sorry, I'm not familiar with this - is this something that Eureka was doing?

Price went mad suddenly for characters few months ago.

They where the cheapest unit of the kislev range maybe one year ago and suddenly, they went at prices like approx 100$.

Oh wow, OK, so - How do you "pledge"?

I guess 12 bears is a unit? So do you sign up for 24 for 2 units?

Kislev (like everything else) is only worth what you are prepared to pay for it.
According to feebay, that is apparently $99 a blister!  :o

Now with that being said, if you really want those bears and characters then buy them. I am a great believer of buying what you want, as long as it does not affect your real life commitments.
Because lets face it, we are only here for a short time, may as well have fun.

I've managed to find someone willing to sell me the characters for about half that, £35 a blister - with some bears at £27.  Managed to get a war wagon for £30 from the US - but the 2nd war wagon I've been offered is still about £40 which is more than the auction so I might pass on it and hope I can get it slightly cheaper, lately.

Personally I wouldn't pay more than $10 per unit for any army!  And from what I've been seeing on ebay lately the Kislev figs appear to be recasts.  Personally I'd rather support the 300 Club with Kislev or proxy other figs for them.  It's really NOT worth it to buy them from ebay at what insane price $80 / blister!  That's nuts!

I'm expecting the price of original GW second hand warmaster to gradually decline now as the years pass. Most of the collectors will have everything they need and there will be little "new blood" except in localised areas where some veterans can corrupt people! Especially as other manufacturors take on the mantle of 10mm fantasy. It's starting already, as outlined in other threads.

So basically, there's no need to pay silly money for Kislev unless you REALLY want them now and insist on original GW figures where there are no proxies.

I've started seeing kislev stuff struggle to sell on eBay (main units) and be relisted a few times. It seems the general price of kislev is going down but the core armies like high elves, orcs and dwarfs are going up which is frustratingly making my high elves difficult to finish!
Looking for Warmaster players for games around london and surrey.

The Bears, War Wagons and Characters all go higher, with Characters being the highest.  Steppe Archers, Archers are easier to proxy.  I've settled for a 2000 point army - just waiting for it to arrive from France.
