2000p Empire vs Orcs
« on: July 27, 2013, 12:38:51 AM »
During a three day campaign my Averlanders met Orcboss Grunzmob's Orcs in a 2000p battle. This was a regular battle without any special victory conditions or victory points.

A brigade of Black Orks and Orcs marches towards the city. General Konrad Holzapfel sends in some knights through the main street to halt their advance. The battle plan is to anchor the left flank in the village and to protect the right flank with the steam tank and the troops on the hill. The cavalry is held back as a reserve.

The knights' charge is repelled by the black orcs and soon the knights are surrounded and slaughtered under the eyes of Konrad Holzapfel.

The orcs plunder the church.

The empire's attempt to retake the town with massed left wing infantry

The battle for the village on the left flank is on it's peak while the center and right flank forms a tidy battle line with the cavalry still in reserve.

The greenskins relentlessly attack the exhausted halberdiers.

Desperately needed support moves to relieve the village. The artillery is pushed back by Geroff spells from the 4 shamans. And the cavalry advances on the right wing.

Covered by the steamtank the Infantry advances into the heart of the center.

More Averlanders are dispatched from the center to help secure the village.

The Orc cavalry attacks the empire infantry in the center. The knights commence their flanking maneuver.

Clash on the right flank

Two in a row.....

The knights sweep around and fall in the back of some gobbos and the rock lobbers.

The orc attack in the center: the handgunners and flagellants are wiped out. The greats words and steam tank survive.

Some pistoliers charge out of their reserve position and with the help of the steam tank counter the orc cavalry attack

A unit of wolf chariots does the counter-counter-attack and crush the greatswords.

But despite the help of Orcboss Grunzmob and his wyvern the remaining chariots fail to penetrate the thick armour of the steam tank. At this points both armys are close to their break point.

Grunzmob gets stranded in front of the imperial battery and is shot to pieces... Averland victory! Although I lost lots of infantry and was one unit from breaking I won by about 400p due to more cavalry and artillery losses on the Orc side.

This was one of the nicest battles I played. It was exciting until the last dice roll and a very very close match. Especially the cinematic struggle for the village with troops pouring in for several rounds was dramatic. Although the town had to be given up at last, the orcs advance was slowed down on this flank and the center was not threatened. Thanks to Orcboss Grunzmob for the great laid back atmosphere.

Wonderful - thanks for for sharing pics and details!

The nice models and the good terrain add to it.  I have made up my mind to get some of the Total Battle terrain like that - did you count it all as built up terrain or just allow the building footprints themselves?

We played the village like regular woods. Infantry counts defended, -1 to order, 2cm visibility, but we treated the main street as open terrain. It's about 6cm wide and fits a unit of cavalry nicely. So the knights could charge through the village right into the orcs.

Ha ha, awesome - that sounds about right.  I was wondering if the town bases were large enough for warmaster bases to go through, that's good to know.
