proxy ideas: Empire
« on: August 04, 2013, 01:29:25 PM »
As many of you know, since GW stopped producing 10mm figures, I have started making lists that map warmaster troop types to miniatures that are widely available today:
http://www.athens-fantasy.gr/2013/07/warmaster-miniatures-in-the-post-gw-era/

There are several armies I haven't prepared yet, so I am turning this into a collaborative effort. Feel free to post ideas/links here and I will sum it up on the blog post to have everything collected there. I will try to keep it up to date as new lines are released to cover the gap in the 10mm market.

so this thread is about the Empire army:

Halberdiers
Handgunners
Crossbowmen
Flagellants
Skirmishers
Knights
Pistoliers
Helblaster
Cannon
Steam Tank
General
Hero
Wizard
Griffon
War Altar

Most should be easy with historical miniatures.

Does anyone have suggestions for a Griffon / Steam Tank / War Altar replacement?  Those would be the hardest, also the Pistoliers.

How about this for pistoliers
http://www.forum.specialist-arms.com/index.php?topic=4296.0

(remember you can click the image to enlarge it)

the just a few ideas
Griffon: maybe Mirlington or 15mm manofacturers could have a griffon suitable. I use one of Granadier 28mm (a little bit big, but that is fantasy).

Steam tank: you have this http://www.forum.specialist-arms.com/index.php?topic=4264.0
It is not a steam tank, but is the same idea.
I sometimes had use a WWII soviet autopropulsed artillery. Maybe with some modifications....
Another possibility is searching something in Troublemakers games (10mm) http://www.troublemakergames.co.uk/

War altar: You need a mage figure, a wagon and a 28mm figure painted in gold

:) hope it helps

These from Pendraken make very good Pistoliers for Empire or Light Cavalry for Dogs of War:

 http://www.pendraken.co.uk/EC10-p3039/

You get a standard bearer and trumpeter in the pack as well as 13 troopers. I guess one of the troopers is an officer figure, can't say I've looked too closely for the difference.

4 packs will get you 5 units  :D.

Add a smoke stack or two to the rear for a steam tank?

With different, or converted, crew figures, a proxy Steam Tank:

Does anyone have a good proxy for flagellants?

I was thinking about extending my Empire army to also become a Witch Hunter army but only have 3 units of flagellants.

Thanks in advance,

Jo

I'm using the Peasants from Kallistra as Zealots but they could be used as Flagellants.

Hi

I was wondering if anybody had looked  at the WizKidds unpainted figures of the Griffon as a proxy, or is it too big? It's meant to be on a 2"/50mm base in this pic:-

Wow! Well as a General command base I'd put it on a 40mm round anyway, looks really dynamic.

Hi

I was also looking at their Goblins and Human Barbarians for Ogres and Giants:-

Will have to look at the size. They are listed as 28mm but the base with the Barbarian is meant to be 25mm  :o

Cheers

Did you check the Griff Hounds for Age of Sigmar for your griffin ?
