proxy ideas: Chaos
« on: August 04, 2013, 01:31:26 PM »
As many of you know, since GW stopped producing 10mm figures, I have started making lists that map warmaster troop types to miniatures that are widely available today:
http://www.athens-fantasy.gr/2013/07/warmaster-miniatures-in-the-post-gw-era/

There are several armies I haven't prepared yet, so I am turning this into a collaborative effort. Feel free to post ideas/links here and I will sum it up on the blog post to have everything collected there. I will try to keep it up to date as new lines are released to cover the gap in the 10mm market.

so this thread is about the Chaos army

Chaos Warriors
Chaos Marauders
Ogres
Trolls
Marauder Horsemen
Chaos Knights
Chaos Hounds
Chaos Chariots
Harpies
Dragon Ogres
Chaos Spawn
General
Hero
Sorcerer
Chaos Dragon

I considered making a chaos list using a mixture of chaos dwarfs and beastmen from Eureka with a few copplestone bits for good measure :)

Chaos Warriors - Eureka Chaos Dwarves or Ogre Beasts
Chaos Marauders - Eureka Beastmen (note there are 4 variants available)
Ogres - Eureka Minotaurs
Trolls - Copplestone TM4 Battle Trolls
Marauder Horsemen - Eureka Demonaurs
Chaos Knights - Eureka Dwargons
Chaos Hounds - Copplestone TM8 Giant Wolves
Chaos Chariots - Eureka Mammupach (note may be too big, it looks HUGE!)
Harpies - Eureka Eagles
Dragon Ogres - Eureka Wood Trolls (depends how strongly you feel treemen belong to wood elves!) alternately FM5 Snow trolls might do the trick, slightly bigger than the 10mm scale trolls, could easily fit one-two per base
Chaos Spawn - Convert from literally any 10mm model
General - Various Eureka chaos warrior/beastmen or copplestone evil character models
Hero - Various Eureka chaos warrior/beastmen or copplestone evil character models
Sorcerer - The "totally not Saruman" model from copplestone TM10 pack would make a good sorcerer model
Chaos Dragon - Eureka Gorgon Riders

The Mammupach is huge - I don't think it would work for a chariot substitute.  it makes a great Tuska for the Dogs of War army though.

good idea Athenas: not going for the same concept figures, but for the same role in battle concept for the units units. Your ideas are great so I will only put some variants or ideas that are in the market and you have not mention.

chaos warrior: I could include some PEN full armoured of late medieval painted in black.
chaos marauders: pendraken also have haedusemen and beestmen
Trolls: pendraken trolls
Marauder horsemen: centaurs pendraken
Chaos hounds: magister millitum 15mm sabre tigers
chaos chariots: Magister millitum/old glory/ irregluar/ chariot with charioteers in full armour plate (pendraken late madieval) or beastmens (eureka)
dragon ogres: maybe here I would use the Dwargons of eureka.
chaos spawn: 15mm or 28mm critter... do not have anyone in mind but some wierd stuff should be found easly
harpies: gargolyes for pendraken beggar army

Don't you think a perfect Chaos Spawn monster would be the new plastic Nurglings from GW?

Or perhaps even better, the squat older metal ones. =-P

As mentioned in another thread, there is a crowdsourcing initiative to create an Evil Men miniatures line in 10mm:
http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/evil-men-fantasy-10mm-miniatures

These would be suitable as Warmaster Chaos Warriors proxies so I hope this gets funded!

This cut from the fluff in the Warmaster Armies book entry on Marauder Horsemen:

"The most expert horsemen come from the eastern Hung..."

Sounds to me a little bit like Mongols, so a mixture of these:

http://www.pendraken.co.uk/MON2-p6929/

and these:

http://www.pendraken.co.uk/MON3-p6930/

for proxy Marauder Horsemen?

Some ideas for building a chaos army wiht pendraken figures, maybe one of them had been said yet

INFANTRY
Warrior / Knights of Chaos - Extra Heavy infantry
 --> European late medieval   Dismonting knights http://www.pendraken.co.uk/ELM3-p2841/
You should work with some putty to make horns and furr capes. Golden armours or black, pink, green, strange colors will make the effect of fantasy.

Maruaders / Barbarians / minons -broos - Heavy infantry
--> Fantasy  --> barbarian range http://www.pendraken.co.uk/Fantasy-c21/Barbarians-sc141/
http://www.forum.specialist-arms.com/index.php?topic=4231.0
http://www.forum.specialist-arms.com/index.php?topic=5770.0
--> Beestmen -->http://www.pendraken.co.uk/Fantasy-c21/Beestmen-sc142/
http://www.forum.specialist-arms.com/index.php?topic=4205.0
--> Cultist thugs and possesed people -->http://www.pendraken.co.uk/Fantasy-c21/Beggars-sc143/

Ogres / Trolls / nasty inhumans - Heavy infantry
--> Minotaurs http://www.pendraken.co.uk/Fantasy-c21/Minotaurs-sc162/
http://www.forum.specialist-arms.com/index.php?topic=6252.0
--> Chaos trolls http://www.pendraken.co.uk/Fantasy-c21/Trolls-sc169/
http://www.forum.specialist-arms.com/index.php?topic=7160.msg61945#msg61945
--> Ogres AC25 Ogre with club (1) y AC9 Ogre with axe and skull (1)  also warband ogres http://www.pendraken.co.uk/FAN-MON5-p7192/

CAVALRY
Mounted Knights --> Extra Heavy cavalry
--> Again some furry capes and horns with putty is needed (it is really simple), gothic gendarmes  http://www.pendraken.co.uk/ELM1-p2839/
--> Armoured centaurs -->http://www.pendraken.co.uk/FC4-p4828/

Mounted barbarians -->Heavy cavalry
--> Bison radiers  http://www.pendraken.co.uk/FB5-p4796/
http://www.forum.specialist-arms.com/index.php?topic=4230.0
--> From the steppe mongols http://www.pendraken.co.uk/MON15-p6942/
--> Centaurs --> http://www.pendraken.co.uk/Fantasy-c21/Centaurs-sc144/
http://www.forum.specialist-arms.com/index.php?topic=4353.0

Chariots-- Heavy chariot
--> Scyted chariots http://www.pendraken.co.uk/PER5-p2785/  maybe the driver should be change for a full metal plate warrior

MONSTERS

Dragon ogres and other composite mostruosities
--> Evil centaurs http://www.pendraken.co.uk/Fantasy-c21/Evil-Centaurs-sc150/

Spawns / and stupid chaos horrors
--> Dungon critters  http://www.pendraken.co.uk/Fantasy-c21/Dungeon-Monsters-sc173/
--> Giant worms http://www.pendraken.co.uk/Fantasy-c21/Giant-Worms-sc211/

Harpies and flyers
--> Gargolyes http://www.pendraken.co.uk/FBG12-p4820/

COMMAND

Heros, generals and mounts - Command
--> Jim  http://www.pendraken.co.uk/AC40-p6379/
http://www.forum.specialist-arms.com/index.php?topic=4575.0
--> Raiding dragons  http://www.pendraken.co.uk/FME14-p4992/
--> Chaos Mammoth http://www.pendraken.co.uk/AC6-p5125/
--> AC2 Helpless maidens (5) could be interesting for some diorama
