That looks good, except. I think you need to remove the round barrel and push the square upto the actual turret. Add some supports on the side of the cannon that help it move and elevate. Or if you don't want to remove the round, make it square and shorten it. With the arches, if you bent them in so they are part of the roof. Add the rest of the roof inbetween. just my thoughts.

Not sure if I want square barrels... Might fit the Imperial aesthetic a bit more, but I tend to go more conventional. Can always try how it looks.

The gun barrel only elevates, as the entire thing building turns, so I think I'll extend the inner "window" up and down to the two ledges, so as to better portray the scope of movement. Might also lower the middle ledge, so as to further exaggerate this.

The arches should remain vertical. as this is a key feature of the design. The roof will probably be a dome at this point, due to the roof shape now. Had things progressed slightly differently, it would have been A-shaped roof sections stretching back from each arch to a central point.

Been stuck on a course for a week (they didn't warn us about this, sounded like a one-day course), so progress will be slow. The printer has also replied to say that he is not able to do anything over the next couple of weeks, which includes feedback on my submitted part.

I recently started assembling my fleet, settling on a few thousand points worth of lances... After about £100 worth of ebay rescues, I've noticed that while I have all the ships, I don't have the lances. So I decided to return to this thread and put together some weapon turrets.

First up, two variants of a battleship main armament:

They're roughly the same size as the Desolator guns. More on the way, for various types of cruiser armament, unless anyone has any specific requests!

EDIT:

A few hours later, three cruiser turrets. These are all about 5mm wide, matching chaos turrets for the most part. Imperial turrets are a mil shorter or so, but for the most part they should still work. The gun barrels on these ones are about half a mil in diameter, which may be too small now.

Hmm, I wonder if those barrels will work out, they seem very thin...

Errrr... "Soon (TM)" =[

I'm planning on designing about 10 of them (so maybe another battleship gun, and a few Imperial-sized turrets), and I also need to get them checked for print and cast compatibility. Currently the barrels on the cruiser turrets are a bit on the thin side, so some edits are due. Once that's done they need to be printed and I need to get myself a set of casting resources. With that done, I need to learn how to cast. I'd like to have it all up and running before the end of November, but no promises unfortunately.

No updates as yet, just made pictures showing barrel numbers. Mostly this is in response to questions on Resin Addict, but Malika raised a similar point here. Thus I shall share the post here as well.

Battleship turret. The single-barrel version is exactly the same as the twin, so just did it once. The diameter of the barrel can still increase slightly as it isn't touching the edges (but sketchup glitches up if I make it touch)... The length is measured from the closest point to the end where it can still be braced against the turret. I'd like to avoid joining the barrels together if I can.

Cruiser-grade turrets:

As you can see, the quads are the most troublesome, with the longest and thinnest barrels. They'll be getting edits at any rate, and most likely will require the barrels to be joined. I might scrap them and start again, depending on how I fare with the edits.

Do you think the battleship and other cruiser turrets will be fine as they are?
Also my main reason for wishing to have the barrels separately, it allows a little customisation, such as posing turrets in elevated positions, or the option to create either a single gun or a twin gun as the turret body is the same.

instead of going with the 4 barrels for the quad (which looks like ack-ack) consider using using a goalkeeper-like variant with two gatling-style rotating multi-barrels, one on each side of the turret ?

I had some trouble getting this to work, as I couldn't figure out a way to mount it so that it would look like it can actually track a target. I'll probably give it another shot, but in the meantime I took the gatling design in a slightly different direction...

Thoughts?

First of all thats awesome, if you make a pack of turrets you have one client here  ;)
One thing, Would you be up to model a pulsar turret or eldar turrets in general? is it even possible? :o, I am not sure how difficult is to obtain an eldar appearance.
With all that jetbike-cruisers flying around I think you would be able to open a great client bag (Sorry for my inglis if is not the correct expresion :P)
The thing is I am trying to model them and is a pain in the ass  :'(

Eldar are bloody irritating because they use a lot of organic shapes, which is easier to sculpt in reality than to model in Sketchup. There are better programs out there that are better suited to working with curves, but I don't have any of them.

After some research into what Eldar weapons actually look like, I now have ideas for both turret shape and for barrels. I'll see how I fare, but no promises.

Shoot me now... Please.

Not done yet; still gotta clean up the various bits and pieces, and the barrels need to be attached, and given the energy weapon treatment.

About 10mm total length... How big are Eldar turrets normally?

7 are ok but they are for a battleship so perfect. If you do one with 2 and one with 1 I will definitively buy them for my wyrm  ;)

Still have a lot of cleaning up to do with all the curves. Sketchup hates them and at this scale it likes to combine points which completely breaks everything pretty much every time it does it... If I do any more eldar turrets it'll likely be using this same design. Barrels are still to be energy weaponified.

If there's something very wrong with the shape, speak up before I polish it, because it'll take days.
