My warmaster/mordheim/bfg modeling and terrain thread
« on: August 12, 2013, 09:45:49 PM »
After a weekend of playing LEGO: The Lord of the Rings it has inspired me to to go onto a terrain building spree! I have dug out an obscene amount of foamboard from the garage so I will log my progress on here and any suggestions or ideas anyone has I will happily include in the process.

I haven't got any photos ready tonight, but I am currently building something similar to this one from town cryer issue 1/ the mordheim release in White Dwarf

WIth more and more MDF coming out - maybe one day there will be a good proxy for the old ruins which is easy to build for amateurs!

yeah I love this scenery... I always tried to build my mordheim terrain in such a way so that lots of action can happen in upper parts of the buildings and not only on the ground..

Man, I miss those good old days when the WD's were filled with this home made terrain sets. Not that it's not cool that GW is bringing out all sorts of kits, but sometimes I get the feeling that an important part of the hobby has kinda disappeared...

If GW brought out something like Necromunda again which was modular and customisable, that would be great - but all the new terrain is so, so specific and one-note that it's hard to justify buying it. :-X

The Imperial sector buildings from a few years ago are good, going to make some smaller buildings out of them that can be used for Epic as well as 40k.

Right, time for my first building update!

There is still a hell of a long way to go with this building but it's getting there. I will start work on level 3 over te next few nights before I start detailing which will include tables and paintings on the walls. I'm still trying to decide on how to detail the windows with frames, however I will use thin clear plastic (blister packs) to make bits of glass.

Let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions or ideas for more buildings let me know!

I would have opted for staggering the floorboards in that section where they actually meet end to end.

I've done a quick fix, wasn't that easy as a lot of it had set!

If you're bothered enough by it, you might be able to rectify it with some filler and a sharp blade. I'd probably say not to bother as there's no guarantee of success and it means you lose the wood texture. It would also mean no option to use dye on the wood rather than paint, though the latter is more likely anyway.

That's actually a really good idea - cover it with a bit of scenery; be it rubble, a bit of roof, a barrel or crate...

Yes, I will be adding another storey to this building before adding the rubble and detailing. I'm away from home for a few days and then off for two weeks due to knee surgery so I should hopefully be able to get a reasonable amount done to get this one to a decent state and also collect the parts I need to add the next building which will be sharing its base. I am also thinking of ideas for the next building, and possibly making some baricades and a small fish market.

Thought I'd shoot up some pictures of the start of my bfg chaos and imperial fleets which I got in some recent mini trades.

First up my imperials!

Need to get some more escorts to give abit more cannon fodder. I have a battlebarge aswell but I'm probably going to trade it for more WM bits to finish my armies.

And my chaos fleet:

A lot of work to do between them, along with adding in a few more ships before I'm totally happy.
