[BFG] Warp Rift
« on: September 06, 2013, 11:49:18 AM »
Here is my attempt at a warp rift. It was inspired by this 2d example:

I liked the idea of a warp rift being just a cluster of pitch black tears in space, so I tried to model it in 3d. I carved up a piece of foam, put some outlying foam pieces on cocktail sticks and put some cotton wool in between (all painted black beforehand).

Not sure if I'm completely satisfied with the outcome, but it was fun to build.

Here are some more action shots:

That's pretty cool actually! good looking table and ships too :).
I don't make the rules, I just think them up and write them down.

That is amazing!  Looks like the nasty bit in the home system in Freelancer with floating black rocks.

Hmm, the shiny-ness doesn't really sell the effect of rips into space; they just look like rocks, or even spaceship parts (ie, the chaos prow floating front left in the pic). Have you tried it with a matt coat?
Quite crucial to be able to tell minefields and rally points apart...
