Which movie did you just watch?
« on: September 11, 2013, 07:04:16 AM »
Last movie I saw was World War Z. A lot better then expected, luckily the gore level was pretty low. But the movie still had some tense scenes. Especially the beginning, Israel scene and end were great.

Certainly 4,5 out of 5 stars.

Ill have to check that one out, the previews were... intersting.

The last movie I watched was Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. My wife and kids have never seen the old ones so Im going through them all :).

I think the last movie I saw in a theater was Les Mis... I took my wife because shes a huge musical fan but she thought it was garbage. I thought it wasnt half bad myself :D. And I know theres probably a ton of great movies ive missed already this year but I get too much screen time as it is with work :P.
I don't make the rules, I just think them up and write them down.

How to Train Your Dragon. If you haven't seen it, and even remotely like dragons, go and watch it right now.

I'm afraid I loathed WWZ because it was impossible to ignore how much better the book it was based on was.  There are a handful of good scenes though, such as them cycling in the rain in Korea to try and get past the zombies quickly and quietly!

Just saw Elysium and despite it being... problematic - it was a very solid, enjoyable action film in a junk-tech dystopia.

Yes, of course!  My friend who follows film closely showed me the Alive in Joburg short that Blokampf made years before D9 and it's really amazing to see that aesthetic turned into a high budget film...

@ Andrew, my kids are still to young (age rating here is higher then US anyway in most cases) to watch all those 12+ movies. Yes, I like to show them all those great movies. :)

How to train your dragon is in my opinion one of the best animated movies I've seen, great storytelling.

District 9 had a really good concept and a great lead character.

Went on a schlock-fest recently and watched the Fly II last night. What a gloriously bad bit of film that is! (though admittedly it does have Princess Vespa so my 80's crush has returned in full force :D )

Last movie I see was The year One. It was fun, humour-adventures in bronze/iron age...

last one i watched was "pacific rim" in 3D.

although some people told me beforehand that the story is lame, some others said it has good balance between a little bit of story so that it all makes some sense and the real action stuff...

after seeing it, i tend to the latter version.

and, you know, giant robots the size of warlord battle titans using a cargo ship taken out of the water in the harbor as a massive club for beating up even more giant monsters, whats not to like about it??  ;D ;D
Nova Cannons are for these sissies who as a kid too preferred to throw stones at the others from a safe distance rather than closing in and get into a real fight ;D

I think most of the Indy films are pg13 here, Im probably a bad parent for letting my kids watch them (8 and 11) but I havent noticed anything to be concerned about with their behavior and attitude. I asked my son (8) if he thought after watching Indiana Jones it was scary or violent etc and he said no it was awesome :P. I think the main thing for me though is that I know what theyre watching, too many people I see just turn the tv on and leave.

How to train your dragon was awesome! Ahem... I have to remind myself at times that Im supposed to be an adult  ;D

Ive also been informed that since Cloudy with a chance of meatballs 2 is coming out the day after my birthday thats going to be my present from the kids. How nice of them! Lol

Oh man - Indiana Jones film when I was a kid scared the heck out of me!

Especially Temple of Doom - I had nightmares for ages about the meal scene with them eating brains - and the pregnant snake spilling out baby snakes...

And the floor of insects and centipedes all crawling up the woman's body! *Shudders*

How To Train Your Dragon was pretty good. Not a particular favourite of mine, but a nice, watching movie night in.

I saw this in the cinema too. Plot holes you could walk a Jaeger through, bad acting, patchy writing.... I loved it! Anyone remotely into the Japanese Kaiju and/or Mecha movies and toys has to see it... and wait for the post credits scenes too.

Last movie I watched was Oblivion. Actually surprisingly good. Its got a Hollywood ending (which I wont spoil) but its the first film in a long, long time that actually surprised me with a few plot twists and events that I didn't see coming. Its a wonderful, rare feeling when the path suddenly opens up for you in a movie and you see where you are suddenly being taken. Not a great movie, but really worth a watch.

Weird thing with Oblivion is that the movie is really okay but if you look at it you will see it steals from many movies:

spoilerific perhaps (Cybershadow doesn't the forum have this as a [] [/] option?)
Independance Day
Star Trek motion picture
Moon
The Matrix
etc
Note to others: if you place spoilers on a movie point it out and use the beige colours. :) Use spoiler tags.
