Siege of terra - EpicUK 2013 xmas game
« on: January 01, 2014, 11:23:06 PM »
Cross-posted from Taccomms for those of you who don't visit that site so often...

So it finally happened, 12 hardy souls got together to re-fight the siege of terra, as it was looking to be a vast game, we split into 3 groups of 4, each playing a different part of the conflict, for my part, I was tasked with defending the imperial palace gates with my imperial fists alongside Tiny-Tim and his blood angels, arrayed against us were Apocolocyntosis's World Eaters and Consul Avenging Angel's iron warriors and death guard

The Chaos players set up right outside the outer walls, ready to swarm in, we garrisoned the guard infantry in the trenches and bunkers, supported by titans and marine tanks, with most of the marine infantry being used as a last line of defence on the palace itself, sigismund boarded a thunderhawk, waiting for an opportune moment to strike down a powerful foe, while Dorn sheltered in the palace walls, Sanguinius sat deep inside the palace waiting to teleport into the fray. Angron sat on board his orbiting space craft, while perturabo and mortarion mucked in with the troops and decided to footslog their way in.

Titans breach the walls and the battle for the palace begins!

with laser guided precision, the Ordinatus shells the Shadowswords, breaking both of them, they withdraw and subsequently refuse to rally for the entire game...

chaos stream through the gate and wall breaches and set to work clearing the first trench line

Manticores pound the cannon of khorne, breaking them with hit rolls of 4 6's, they save all but are broken, same story with the other formation, who lose two

Tim points and laughs as the banelord takes a warlord titan volcano cannon to the face.... shame it only does 1 damage and no crit....

defilers break and scuttle forward to threaten the preds and vindicators

plaguehound titans awaiting the moment to pounce

Turn 2

chaos begin to clear the second trenchline

chaos forces continue to pour into the palace grounds

The loyal warlord destroys the reaver with a brutal sustain fire, the smoking wreck of the reaver remains, covering the advance of the world eaters

Turn 3

Chaos clear the second trench line, earning a nifty 5VP in the process, imperials fall back and consolidate to a defensive line

Sanguinius and the last line of defence brace themselves....

The blood angels sieze the opportunity to pounce and land a thunderhawk and terminators in the middle of the chaos advance, they slaughter everyone in reach

Angron and his elite bodyguard teleport in to engage the warlord

the warlord stomps backwards out of reach and blasts the terminators, felling two and leaving them close to breaking.... a lone pred finishes the job

The iron warriors terminators teleport in and blow up the crippled reaver....

as the chaos air force fails to go on CAP, Dorn siezes his opportunity and lands his thunderhawk to engage Angron, the two primarchs face off, Dorn lunges at Angron and wounds him, but the behemoth fails to notice and promptly hacks dorn down.... the terminators in the formation wipe each other out, except the chaplain who flees, the marines win, but Angron is not fazed!

I didn't get any more pics, although sigismund flew out in a thawk and blew up a pair of warhounds, then spent the rest of the game being shot at by Iron Warriors havocs in trenches

A close day all round, but at the end, the imperium managed to edge the win, thanks in part to them destroying 15 titans...

A truly Epic looking game!
The Emperor may be master of the Galaxy, but a Captain is master of his ship!

That looked like a very enjoyable game.

The highlight for me is the picture of Angron versus Dorn, and the fact that Angron was victorious.  More skulls for Khorne :D!  It's just a shame that Chaos couldn't force a victory.

I think our general plan of 'kill all the titans' is what did it for us..... ;)

Possibly :D.  However, 'kill all the titans' is a very enjoyable plan to try to execute, and that makes playing all the more fun in my view.  I remember trying a similar thing against an opponent's Space Marine army once, and losing, but it was fun.

cheers, glad you enjoyed

unfortunately the lighting at the venue was terrible which meant seriously sub-optimal pics, it looked quite the spectacle on the day (also bear in mind this is only one of three tables in action)

looking for ideas for the big game this year.... anyone got any suggestions?

I guess Armageddon would be a suitable Epic battle - imperials and space marines versus Orks!

Believe we've spread talks about this but I suggest Tallarn :)
As we Imperials say, "The Emperor [class battleship] Protects..."
