[WM] painting scaled armour
« on: January 05, 2014, 05:14:22 PM »
I started painting my Warmaster Dark Elves so I thought it is a good time to do a small survey.

So how do you paint 10mm scaled armour?
The Dark Elf sculpts are not super crisp so I find the results of simple dry brushing not that great.

Any tips or different approaches?

You get the best results for this scale deffinately by washing...  uncomparable better than drybrushing...

Yeah I don't use drybrushing normally - either washes or (ideally) layering for more control)

But for the 10mm scaled armour, washing darkens the whole area too much.
I might try multiple very thin washes instead.

I usually put wash on then dry the brush, then take off the excess with the dry brush.

What stormwind said;)
I find a combination of the two techniques works best, for armor and everything else (although true dry brushing with the flailing brush usually gives way to a more careful highlight on the smallest stuff)
