Thanks guys. The problem is actually very simple, its just the communication between me and the web hosts that are holding things up. The server needs configuring and we are shooting emails backwards and forwards to get this done. When it is set up, it should be a simple matter of installing and turning it back on again.

So what actually happened?

Basically.... It just disappeared! I woke up to find the directory containing the forum just gone, and it took the home page with it. I still dont know exactly how an entire directory can get up and walk off over night!  I am still attempting to get the server configured, as you can probably tell that the install scripts for the boards are not working right now. Once this is done, I will install the boards and link them to the database and we should be good to go.

Sounds rather a pain! Did you not keep the directory backed up as well as the database or did the backup not work? Dang technology.

Any vague idea how long it might take out of curiosity? Hope you can fix it and thanks for all your good work!

Yeah, its all backed up (all three sections - here, TacCom and WikiWikiWar - are backed up around twice a week). I could just move the directory back, but if the installer doesnt work, the code probably wont either, and code is fragile for this kind of thing. Installing is a 30 minute job (I have done it many times now!  ). As soon as the server settings are done, I will get moving again.

...I'm actually thinking about tidying up my workbench!

If it is a money issue, well I don't even have a job at the moment, yet I would help out with a donation. Serious withdrawl issues and every other forum that I go to (4 others) are not doing it for me.

CyberShadow, if you can give me an idea of bandwidth and CPU requirements, I may be able to provide alternative hosting if you can't get the forum up and running on Hostpapa. Email/PM me if you think I can be of help.

I'm also a Perl guru if you need some help fiddling with the guts of the forum code.

Nope. I do scheduled backups on Mondays and Thursdays so it may be down for an hour while I do this, but the site and forum is working fine for me!
