How big is your SG lead mountain?
« on: March 11, 2014, 10:02:24 PM »
I ask this not for people to boast, but more from the point of view of mutually shaming one another into painting more.

I have painted a dozen Warmaster blisters - and have in various stages of preparation for painting etc. about another 30.  This leaves a lead pile of about 150 blisters / units worth.

I'm about to make another order to Sally 4th - if I can get them magnetised and in easy to store boxes - it's encouraging to at the very least prepare and undercoat them ready for test battles!

What is your shame?

Mine's barely a molehill at the moment.

I've got a unit of Pendraken Knights for my Araby army, plus the General and 2 Wizard stands to do, as well as a collection of various Pendraken figures to make up a Paymaster and Pay Wagon stand for my Dogs of War army, then I'm out of stuff to paint.

I've just received a load of bases from Renedra, so will have to get some more figures ordered in the next few weeks.

I've also got lots of Evil Men figures on order with Yann via Indiegogo, whenever they will arrive.

Stuff I'm planning to buy is various units to finish off my Araby army, a few extras for my Dogs of War, then probably move onto Chaos Dwarves - hopefully with some Steppe Goblins included in the ranks  ;D

No rest for the wicked...

Edit: I'm not one for much of a back log - it's a bit too daunting. I prefer to buy a reasonable amount of figures and finish them before buying more.

It also helpfully stops SWMBO making pointed remarks about how much I'm spending! Fortunately she's into scrapbooking, so when she asks what I'm going to do with the figures I collect, I simply point to the significantly larger area of the room that her hobby takes up. The good thing about 10mm minis, they don't take up much space  :D

2 to 3 times that.
Slowly wading through painting 12 units of skeleton spearmen at the moment. 6 nearly finished.......

You do know that when you finish painting your last unpainted figure, you die?
At this rate I'm going to live until I'm 100! :)

I spent many years in a small apartment, planning and gathering my armies while sending what I did receive to my parents (with a much bigger house and numerous storage sheds). I do not recommend other people do this. I recently returned to my parents house for a while and sorted through my stuff, and was kind of overwhelmed...

I have a minimum 2000pts of Dwarfs, High Elves, Chaos, Khemri Undead, Orcs and Goblins, Empire, Skaven, Lizardmen, Kislev, Daemons and probably more I've forgotten about. Many of those armies are 3000+ pts, some even up to 4000 or 5000.

So- how much is painted? Well, almost all of my High Elves (which I bought painted  ;D) and almost 1500pts of my Orcs and Goblins.

I also collect Epic, 40K, Warhammer and BFG, and the situation doesn't look much better for them either.

I really need to outsource some painting. But I do really like painting- I'm just so slow at it.

well, i just have BFG, but for only collecting it for 3 years and on limited resources, i think i have gathered quite a lot...

besides the huge lots i have painted and done, i have about 8 bigger and 20 smaller ships in various states of assembly or painting, as well as roughly 30 ships in blisters....  plus the load of around 50 ships i got from ebay which need a full redo.  ::)
and a crapload of orbital mines.  ;D

my problem: huge 40k armies, plus i really, really HATE painting.
i just see it as a necessary evil, and force myself to have models painted before i allow myself to use them in-game...  only way anything gets done. it is still VERY slow  :(
Nova Cannons are for these sissies who as a kid too preferred to throw stones at the others from a safe distance rather than closing in and get into a real fight ;D

The SG stuff is the lion's share but I've still got a bunch of other minis beyond it.

1 MH warband, on sprue.
4 GM mobz, some built.
4 gangs of NM and most of the hired guns. 1 gang should be painted come April.
5 fleets of MoW along with the Norse and Sea Monsters. 1 fleet is painted.
30k of WM spread out over 10 armies. 8% is painted.
I'm not counting the points I have for Epic, but somewhere around 20 armies and at least 100k worth of points.

I began to have several WM armies, but othing as big as that.

A Kislev army painted, and some few other figs i should paint one day...
A Dark Elves army painted.
A Lizardmen army painted.
A small Bretonnian army painted.
A Big undead army painted too.

Several units from here and there, remnants of boughts or trades. I should let them go but i did not (yet) took time to propose them.

Epic : Squats and Tyanids. Far too many of them, definitively.

Man O'War : Really tons.

And I thought I was a Warmaster mentalist!

I like the approach of getting professional help (painters, not psychiatrists)....

Yeah , well I seem to have fallen of the deep end and missed the safety net . Who knew !.

On the other hand I have been wargaming for over 37 years , so I have lots of other stuff as well .

My wife is fairly resigned to the fact that the postman brings varying parcels that rattle when shaken , then her eyes roll up with a statement it's yours !.

Hehehe .

I really need to outsource some painting. But I do really like painting- I'm just so slow at it.

This is me pretty much. Plus, I am not a great painter, due to the lack of time to get consistant at it, and I hate to paint stuff if I know that I wont be happy with the result, and so the vicious cycle continues.

For BFG, I have both Chaos and Eldar as my main fleets, and each of those have over 60 ships. Epic is where it gets crazy though, starting at 10K points of Tau and moving on to boxes and boxes of stuff. I had an Epic box full of blisters, around 50 plastic double sprues for Marines, Eldar, Tyranids and Chaos. a shopping bag full of more blister packs, around 50 sprues of Squats.... the list goes on and on.

Honestly, its not something that I should be proud of, and at this point I seriously doubt that I will ever actually get through it all.... but I still cant bring myself to get rid of any.

Stuart,

Damn, that must be the top side of 80,000 points! Well done that man! The next time SWMBO has a little dig at the just under 16,000 points I've got painted, (and 5000-odd planned  :D ), I'll mention it to her  ;)

I'm looking forward to potential steppe goblin and ogre armies, since my chances of getting lizardmen, araby etc. without a bank loan are diminishing. x-D
