Congratulations to every one who entered this year again.
I discovered in january the gothicomp, and i'll be there next year i think :)

My goal was to know what the community will think of my work, and i'm wasn't disappointed at all.
So yeah, i'm still a beginer in this domain, but i'll work hard again to improve my skills and enter in 2015 if it's possible :)

One time again, thanks to every one, from Horizon and Mangozac to every member who just voted, this competition exists thanks to you all !

 :)

Well, onto next year.
With the gathering numbers of non-BFG models in the competition I am planning to change the categories a little.
Why? Because an escort from the Firestorm Armada range is as big as a light or even full cruiser from the BFG range. And hitpoints are different
Solution: Changing categories:
One-hit category -> Small Models (up to 5cm in length/width/height)
Ship Categogory -> Bigger models, everything larger then above.

Would that work?

what about dividing into BFG and others? that way we have a winner with traditional models and one with FA or such   ;)

had the idea because most of the other ships have much nicer surfaces for special effects, which the winners of this year used to full extent... and its kinda hard to pull off with anything besides eldar or tau in BFG  :-\
Nova Cannons are for these sissies who as a kid too preferred to throw stones at the others from a safe distance rather than closing in and get into a real fight ;D

I support the above suggestion as a way to anchor our interests in BFG yet expand to other models/games

I also like the idea of separate categories for BFG and other fleet scale game systems.
Bigger is better. If bigger wasn't better, then it wasn't big enough!

Heya, tomorrow I will explain it some more but that idea is one I will not use. I even think it is a really bad one on top of it as well.

:)

'kay.
So Fistus_Maximus: you say that painters have an advantage on Firestorm Armada vessels compared to Battlefleet Gothic Vessels? I disagree.
Sure they have some more flat surfaces but that does not mean that the more detailed styled BFG ships can't pull of "special effects".
Just check the GothiComp hall of fame for example. Note Giullo's standard Chaos cruiser? Or the way Vaaish & Canucks Fan can make Marines shine (aside of the heavy conversion CF did with the big flat surface)? Or some of the French entries we had in the past.

You say that Eldar & Tau have that advantage as well? So we should lump them into the Firestorm Armada catagory then?
What with the models from other manufacturers?

And if we did split this up it would mean two/three more categories in total.

I was not able to do that before, as when the last time i checked, most of the links were broken. now, after checking back, i do see your point, yes  ;)

You say that Eldar & Tau have that advantage as well? So we should lump them into the Firestorm Armada catagory then?

never said that they should be different categories too, was just stating an opinion based on my experiences.

also, while i can see your point about a more skilled person being able to achieve better effects on more complicated surfaces too; you did not really give a reason why there should not be two categories (BFG and non BFG).
seeing as there were people agreeing with me on the subject, i'd like to hear why you disagree on that idea in general  :)

Weird, the hall of fame has been up since last year afaik.

Heh, well, because
1) it would spread to thin.
2) what about other manufacturers?
3) categories would jump from 3 to 6 for one exception already
4) should Tau/Eldar be banned from BFG?
5) I think it is cooler to have all space ships competing.
6) kitbashed, conversions, where do they go?
7) it is a can of worms

oh, and because I'm a dictator.  8)

Also and I hate to state the obvious reality, but the supply of official BFG models can only dwindle over time. Eventually you'll just have the BFG category whither to nothing. Relative physical size and/or fleets would be best to enter, irrespective of manufacturer.
As we Imperials say, "The Emperor [class battleship] Protects..."

thats what convinced me.
 ;D

okay, in all seriousness: while i may disagree with certain points, you did state enough to justify the rejection of my idea, and i fully understand. i'll shut up now  :-X  :P

Maybe three categories?

Small Ships, Medium Ships (up to BFG grand cruiser size aprox 5-12cm? two 'light' cruisers still? what size is a light cruiser?), Large Ships (battleships and larger...)
Here we can see a Retribution compared to a Spartan Armageddon (yellow) and Overseer (white). The Overseer is one of the smaller "large" sized Spartan ships (carrier) while the Armageddon is one of the largest (dreadnought). Both are significantly larger then the Retribution in presence, if not significantly larger in length/width.

Next a Directorate Executioner cruiser, a Carnage, and a Dauntless. While these are closer to each other (Spartan still has a bit larger presence) they're all dwarfed by the larger models.

Lastly here are a couple of Spartan frigates along with a Firestorm. These are not really too different at all (some of the newer Spartan resin frigates are significantly larger though).
I don't make the rules, I just think them up and write them down.
