Great to have you on board Pugwash. I was excited about seeing your Dark Elves but Araby would be even more fun to see, I've hardly seen any painted Araby stuff but what I have seen has looked superb.

How about we start with a bare-metal/undercoated picture of the forces we're talking about?

Sounds like a great way to start, I'll open up a new thread later so that we can get some introductions going and start showing off those piles of unpainted lead.

The rules version 1:

So, here's a first attempt at the 'rules', this is not set in stone and we need to all feel happy with them>

1) The 'Tale of Warmaster Painters' officially begins on Monday the 8th of September.
2) There will be a single 'official' thread. I'll open this once the rules have been confirmed.
3) Each participant should aim to make an initial introductory post within a week of the start date in which they outline their plans, and post any pre-painting pics/army lists etc.
4) Any 10mm army that uses the WM rules (official or not) is eligible. This includes armies for Warmaster, Warmaster Ancients, and BOFA.
5) Participants should aim to paint one 'selection' from their army list per week. This includes characters and warmachines. This is deliberately intended to allow several 'easy' weeks across the project.
6) Photographs of the painted units should be submitted to the official thread every two weeks: i.e. each participant should post pictures of two 'units'.
7) The first phase of the 'TOWP' will end in Mid December. If people wish to continue we'll enter phase two!

Does that sound ok?

A couple of things I'm not sure about:

1) Does a single thread sound manageable? (an alternative would be to have a thread purely for posting pictures and another for comments; or, to have a new thread each month)
2) How often should we say we'd post pictures? (I'd say either once a week, once a fortnight or once a month)

Cheers - Paul.

EDIT: What about a thread each month with the requirement to post once a week? That way the threads wouldn't become too unwieldy (if there are five or so participants that'd mean each month's thread had around 20 posts with pictures plus whatever comments come along.

I actually think that this option is the most viable.

If there is more then 5 people to come onboard with this, then I can set-up a seperate subforum to host the threads, that will make keeping track of it easier !!

That might be handy, it'd be nice to have a section where the monthly threads could be seen alongside each other without intervening threads. We're at five now so we'll see how it goes. I take it the section would be a 'child' of the Painting section?

If this subsection went ahead perhaps we could have the current month stickied during its 'life'? And it'd make having a 'rules' sticky nice and tidy.

Either way I think a monthly thread with a header along the lines of:
'Tale of Warmaster Painters [September]' is going to be a good option. With weekly(ish) posts it should generate quite a bit of chatter.

What about you Lex, you fancy joining in?

I am facing some rather busy months till the end of the year, but I am tempted, and I do have a viable 2k goblinoid kislev army primed, so I might decide to pick up the challenge.....

Ah, go on! You know you want to...

I'm also facing a busy three months when usually my painting rate would drop drastically (new teaching term coming soon) but that's actually the reason I want to do this (rather than a reason not to).

And if my skewed logic fails then let's return to the ever-convincing 'Ah go on, you know you want to!'

Thanks, I'll get my mod hat on and get over there tonight. And 'on the road' does sound tricky. I tried painting in a hotel once when I was at a conference and it wasn't as much fun as I'd hoped - I just felt like an ultra-nerd in a lonely hotel room.

well, I did do my dwarfs during a tournament trip to the States and Canada a couple of years ago...  they started out undercoated and with 3 days to spare in Memphis before the event I did most of the basecoat. The rest (including doing scenic bases etc was party done during my two day trainride (Memphis-Chicago-Seatle) and the Dwarfs where dullcoated before the next weekend's event in Vancouver..........

I'm not saying the Dark Elves won't get painted as well (pictures pending) - just not for this challenge  ;)

The rules look fine to me pw.  We can always make changes later, if needed, as we see how things go.  Fwiw I'll likely be shifting countries during the later period of the challenge, so all my warmaster will be packed into a shipping container for a month or so.    However, I'll try and get a buffer of pictures built up before then, so I can participate while in painting limbo  :)

Painting on a train  :o. Sounds like a unit a week would be too easy!

Sounds great to me.
Off to photo my orcs as I have no way of getting the Chaos Dwarves purchased in time.
Still at a disadvantage as all my heroes & warmachines are done ;)
I will be doing a few extra units as I am doing a goblin army as a bolt on force (squigs, pump wagon etc.)

As the proud owner of an excitable toddler a couple of days on that train sound very appealing!

What does "phase two" means?

The rules seems well for me. Nice idea this challenge....
