Zweihanders - Non competition photos
« on: October 04, 2014, 09:57:10 AM »
My first Zweihander unit. Not complete, the basing needs doing, (as it does on the 20-odd other various units I've got painted up!).

This is also not my competition entry, photos of that to follow.

Wonderful - great to see them not just in strips but on 40mm by 20mm bases, as God intended. =D

"First painted Zweihander unit in the world".

Wonder how much I could get on ebay for that?!

Edit: It's weird, the colours are much more vibrant than they look in the photos  :(

Nice work, though I must ask- what is the shape in the black corner of their banner? When I first saw it I thought it looked a little... risqué

Geep, Well the symbol started off as 3 gold dots. I'm not very good at flags, so I joined them up. Then I realised...! They are a Dogs of War unit so maybe their flag is saying what they will do to their enemies for gold?! Wish I was better at flags!

I'm guessing they just want to advertise 'Greatswords' in every way they can.

Banner ideas can be pretty difficult- I tend to steal from source books.

If the standard bearers are just cast with the pole, I tend to print out paper flags, often reduced scale ones that I find on the web. Usually works well, certainly a country mile better than my painting skills!

Glad I wasn't the only one who noticed. :P The Order of the Golden Dong is renown throughout the old world as a mercenary unit of the highest caliber.

I was toying with the idea of these for a bit:

Too much white though, the pop culture banners I'm going with will offer more color options.

You know, I was going to paint over it and try something else but after all the comments above, I thought "***k it" ( ;)) and decided to leave it as it is.
