newbie questions
« on: December 16, 2014, 01:04:43 PM »
I have yet to start and honestly never even saw this game growing up.

resources are limited but I do have a rulebook in pdf

I am looking for dwarf and chaos fleets
my first question, where can I find a list of units, with a picture

my first confusion is ironclads vs. dreadnought vs admiral ships and squadrons  do I just have one ironclad or dreadnought or do I have a squadron of iron clads or dreadnoughts....are they the same ship (s)?

I am deeply interested in this game and want to start getting models but some inconsistencies are scaring me from doing so...Thank you all!!!

I don't know much about the game, but what I can tell you:

Chaos fleets came in the Plague Fleets expansion. That expansion is known as one of the things that broke the game. I don't know why, exactly, but you may find you need to get a house-ruled chaos list (or maybe chaos lists aren't a problem? I don't know)

Unfortunately I don't know of any one place that does this- you're best off looking at the silhouettes on ship template cards, and googling. There are a few good blogs around, but I can't remember their names. I found them through google though.

There are two ship categories- 'Men O' War' and 'Squadrons'. Men O' War are always single ships, squadrons are.. well, squadrons. I'm pretty sure Ironclads and Dreadnoughts are both Men O' War, so one ship per purchase.
Ironclads and Dradnoughts are not the same ship. Dreadnoughts are in the Sea of Blood expansion, and replace Ironclads as the compulsory flagship (though you may still take both ship types).

From what I've heard it is quite a good game, and the rules seem mostly good. I seriously question some fleets (like Orcs, where the Bigchukkas just seem terrible, and Dark Elves, where lucky shots can kill a 'ship' outright in one hit), and some rules (flyers, introduced in Sea of Blood, seem very odd rules-wise) but I'm sure it can be made to work.

The Dwarves got a new ship in the Sea of Blood, that selector supersedes the one in the main rulebook. Take a look at that, it should clear up the confusion.

I cannot for the life of me find the rules for the sea of blood expansion

I am really just looking for a starter fleet for play testing rules and trying to fit it into a campaign of warmaster with mighty empire rules.

so I am still confused

all I can find for sale are squads of ironclads....or in 3's anyways
but I see dreadnoughts for sale always as individuals....
they look exactly the same,  using the original rules either one would be fine as an admiral ship right?

then for the rest of a minimum fleet...using the original rules on my screen....1 squad of monitor's and a single nautilus right?

thank you everyone for your help

http://jake.ryft.org/warhammer/manowar/

At least one Dread and at least one Iron Clad.

At least one squadron of 3 Monitors but no more than 2 squadrons for each Dread/Iron Clad.

At least one Nautilus but no more than the number of Dreads and Iron Clads.

another question......

If I have a khorne fleet can I have a flier? lord of change?
the sea of blood rules do not list a flyer for the khorne fleet so I assume not but what about if I have 2 allied plagueships?

same thing for magic, yet again it is a khorne fleet BUT since I have the plaguefleet allied in.......???

I am trying to gather 2 fleets to play a complete game so I want to use the magic and the air troops but I want empire vs. chaos and I only like the khorne and nurgle fleets  :(

thank you all for your help

Also.....I have noticed a lack of info on which ships attack where and how as shown in the empire fleet punchout card with the original man o'war box.

it perfectly states all of the attacks of those ships, is there a card like that for all of the races?  Can someone direct me to something for the nurgle and khorne fleets please?

thanks!!!!

received my empire and khorne fleets in the mail this weekend, took some time to clean up the masts and sails on enough of them to play.  Took a few pictures during my second playtest game.  Really reading through the instructions as i go so a game takes a while.  the fleets are about 1600 points total and i hope to get them to 2000 points each and probably just be done with the game.  The fun factor is making me wish i had more models already though.

after playing a couple games how does everyone keep track of their movement.  After just playing a basic minimum game I started to forget which ships had already moved so I am going to have some real trouble with the full fleets with nearly 3 times the ships.

would anyone here like to trade some of the flying units?  I received manticores instead of griphon riders as well as elf dragon riders for no reason as well.

I just flip the card over. If you're using all the chits rather than the OoG PDF then that's probably not an option though, so use an activation marker instead.

what does an activation counter look like or are you just calling an activation counter as just a term as in I could use anything as the counter?  I was thinking on making my own counters but buying some of those blue glass stones that you can find really cheap from an arts and craft store that you would fill a vase up with.  Those would never be confused for something else and put in a tray along with all of the other counters this game has.

Yeah!!!! more counters!

that's my new slogan for life.

The latter, for EA I made custom ones but a lot of people around here use the E40k order dice.

last thing that i think i need for this game right now are the magic cards from the original release as well as the regular special ability cards.  When i search for them i get a lot of magic: the gathering and i see that they released a MOW card combat game as well, totally seperate from this game.

I have a lot of links to a lot of sights for resources of this game but none seem to feature these cards  :(

I found a couple decks on ebay but they only show the back and I am afraid to get burned on them and I dont want to assume it is the correct man o'war game.

Thank you!  I would love to just purchase the ebay decks so i dont have to make these myself.

Those are the cards, not sure how many there were off the top of my head. The only other cards were from the Plaguefleet expansion.
