Dwarf enginearing guild
« on: March 09, 2015, 12:48:39 PM »
Hi ,
A question regarding dwarf enginearing guild .

If you have a hero / rune Smith and choose to give them an observation balloon option .

Can the hero still issue commands ?

Can the rune Smith use his anti spell or say use dispel scroll .

I don't see why not in both cases. There's other flying mounts out there and a character can issue orders/cast while on them.

Although, it does beg the question why flying units have to be within 20cm to get an order and flying generals/heroes can order things beyond 20cm.

Obviously it's because shouting downwards is assisted by gravity.

I just assumed they were armed with "Bricks of Command".

I can imagine the flying general going to a unit a kicking into action. Whilst a ground based General could shout himself hoarse as he bellow impotently at a flying unit 21 cm away flying 80 cm high.

Good point. Those 80cm high flyers can still be shot by goblins with a 15cm range though. It's an abstraction for the sake of the game that I can live with, I just find it odd.

I don't think you want to put your rune smith in the balloon. The hero is basically a sacrifice to allow use of the balloon.

I agree with honestmistake here.
The description specifies that you loose the hero.

The hero doesn't just shout command. He has a suit of messengers with him that carry the commands to the units. I cannot imagine those messengers being thrown out of the baloon :)
However, the idea of "bricks of command" is hilarious.  ;D

As to giving orders to the flyers: I believe the idea here is that they're not in the air for the whole time. So the messenger with the command reaches them while on the ground. The further they are, the harder for the messenger is to determine where to meet them (as they are flying around), and at 20cm, it becomes nearly impossible.
