high elves vs. dwarf (2000 pts)
« on: March 16, 2015, 12:52:18 AM »
My brother came over for the weekend.  Did not get in as much play time as we would have liked but still played some really fun games!

I wanted to try out the campaign system with the mighty empires rules BUT the clock was not going to have it.  He got to my house a little later than I wanted and then I made him play his first ever game of man o'war and that took up way too much time so we just then tried to put some games together.  Everyone of my family was sick so we were all up with the 2 kids at six and that makes for a long long day and staying up too late gets hard to do especially when you try to strategise your way through a game of warmaster.  My brother is a perfect example of poor decision making late in the night  LOL

Using Lex Van Roy's random scenario generator we created an assault 2 scenario, nothing special....just break the other army.  My dwarves were the attacker and set up from the 2 short ends of the 6'x4' table.  His army minus the rearguard deploy in the center.  I have attached a picture of the deployment.  In the first turn, I moved up just a bit to entice his calvary to attack and to get my cannons in the best position possible at the edge of the hill, only managed to kill a stand of reavers and pushed them back out of line and confuse them, could have killed more I guess but that's all I can ask.  On his turn one he took 2 silver helms and 2 chariots against my dwarven block supported by 2 rangers.  I will post these pics in a couple replies after this.  Knowing I would get support I slightly exposed my flank of the warriors on the side of the rangers, hoping for a juicy counter offensive.  The chariots did more than I expected, my brother rolled very well against me and wiped out the thunderers in the front line, so know support.  This pushed my "Dwarven hammer" block away from the rangers who were also in a fight against their own unit of silver helms.

When my brother did it, I told him not to, but he joined the silver helms against the 2 rangers in columns with his general.  I had played out a lot of scenarios with my dwarves and this was one of them and despite the fact that this was a dice game I just knew what was going to happen.  The rangers won the first round of combat, surrounded the silver helm and took out 2 stands in round 2.  Round three, they were all destroyed including his general with his eagle mount.

This was a single turn game.  The elves were too vein and confident in their tactics.  :)
We had a good laugh about it for sure.  On the next turn the winning rangers, now set up behind the cavalry would have hit the rear whilst the warriors countered at the front and they would have all been gone with the cost of just 1 warrior and 1 thunderer but then again, it never happened and I can speculate all I want!!!  ha.

the high elf general on an eagle orders the line of 2 chariots and 2 silver helms to attack the rangers and the thunderers at the front of the huge dwarven mass.

the dwarf warriors retreat out of the way.  the center column was confused, terrible luck as no support would happen during the combat, and support would have won the fight for them.  The fight of attrition would work out in their favor, 2 units in column would survive.

Me and my brother decided to finish the large combat of the 2 chariots and the silver helms against my dwarf hammer group,  2 stands of chariots and I believe 1 stand of silver helms died and were backed off.  Then we finished the fight against the silver helms being personally lead by their general on his eagle.  Game over.

That's an impressively short game. I've only seen a general committed once in one of my games, and that was because if the unit he was with died the game was over anyway.
