Dwarfs bears
« on: September 16, 2009, 08:07:59 PM »
Since I bought the dwarfs character pack I wondered why there are a figure of a capture bear.

I rarely seen it in the command stands of the people armies. Do you use the bear to represent something? or give it some use, or have made a cool diorama with the bear.

There are a dwarf character (I think the one who is drinking) that wear a robe of bear skin. Has anything to do with the prisoner.

The Bear is also present in the Dwarf King blister!. I think a have a pack of kidnapped bears. ::)

I only can think in an scencario to rescue de "bear" ... Beorn seek the kidnappers of his son, or something like this.

Anyway the figure is beatifull and I like the odd and bizare miniatures, just I do not know what I can do with them.

I was short on Rangers, long on bears.  I incorporated them into my Ranger stands -- "give 'em to the rangers, they'll figure out what to do with them."

Creating a new meaning for 'beartrap' kind of justifies an 'ursinetide' special rule for the Rangers.

I think they may join a kislev unit or two as well -- probably as a 'flag' stand for Chaos marauders proxied as Kislev.

It and the Jester are basically there to add 'flavour' for the Dwarf Kings court...

Long, long ago ... in a galaxy not so far away ... a company called Citadel made a boxed set of the Dwarf king's court. If I remember correctly it had the King, Queen, 2 guards, the King's Champion, a rather effeminate Queen's Champion, a smith, a wizard (it was so long ago Dwarves could still cast magic) plus, you guessed it, a jester and a bear.

Citadel became Games Workshop and the set is long since gone - except from the collections of old fogeys like me  :D

I've always assumed the Warmaster jester and bear were an hommage to that set.

Growing old is mandatory, growing up is entirely optional
