dwarves are awesome

still only half way through the game.

Testing out the dwarf rules, the engineers are funny as hell and the nautilus torpedoes are awesome.  2 for 2 on sinking some death galleys on the flanks.  Ironclads chasing the blood ship around the other flank and doing some damage.

included image of the start of the game.  You can see where the flanks would hit.  I am just playing myself to read through the rules once of the dwarves before I finish their markings up on the templates.  Still need to get a dreadnaught a balloons.  Went with 3 nautilus' instead of mixing it up with gyro's because the chaos are pretty good against flyers so I do not see them doing anything in this game.

what is everyone's thoughts on the dwarf fleet?
I have found a website of strategies of them all, so I am trying to stay back a bit with the dwarf ships as I have read is what they should do while the subs get their hits in.

Thanks for looking.

If by 'engineers are funny as hell' you mean 'incredibly damn frustrating' I agree  :P

I can't really offer any advice- I don't have enough experience. From simple rules reading though I've always thought the dwarfs are pretty vulnerable to air attack (once damaged so boarding can happen- they have very low crew values).

resounding victory for the dwarves.  35 - 5 battle honors

the ironclad with admiral chased the bloodship around and kept ticking away with 3 shot broadsides and finally sunk the ship and captured the admiral.

Subs went 3-4 on torpedo strikes, sinking 3 death galleys and nearly sinking a 4th.

ironclads in the center messed up the iron sharks and the other death galleys and they only lost one nautilus in the process.

for now on I think I will keep the bloodship back to fill in the hole where a death galley has sunk.  I keep thinking he is stronger than he is because of massive amount of hit locations on the ship but he always gets badly damaged in every fight to the point of nearly sinking if not sinking.

the engineers are awesome as the dwarf player but super frustrating if playing against them.  could have and should have probably sunk 2 of the monitors and at least 1 of the subs.  But with those locations having to be damaged twice its hard to tell what I would have rolled on the critical chart.

The final ship in the squadron on the flank finally got to board and take the nautilus in the last turn and I was surprised that they had 3 battle honors as they are smaller and weaker than a death galley by a lot but those torpedoes are powerful weapons so I guess its fair.

The ironclad in the center sunk a deathgalley and destroyed the guns of another.  Took a ram that caused 2 BW hits but those 2 ships and their crew couldn't bring it down.  Had the blood ship not lost a third of it's speed on the first barrage against it, it may have made it around and rejoined the fight to get some more points as well.

I also keep forgetting about the chaos reward cards for the death galleys, need to play a bit more to get those into habit.

I have had a campaign game going for a week now while I recover from a "surgery" and the table has now turned because of a huge man o'war game.  Chaos launched a straight line assault against a dwarf fleet that was spread thin along a 6 foot table edge.

I pushed the iron sharks in first with a squadron of death galleys and flanked by the blood ship, BUT the monitor squadron was supported by a nautilus,  a torpedo earned the first kill, and as the iron sharks go into range I was able to concentrate fire and get a lucky critical hit sinking another.  Then fighting got close range with the death galleys coming up second, rams were exchanged but nothing bad happened to the experienced dwarf sailors and boarding parties were negated.  The other squadron of death galley's went straight at the flagship ironclad sitting by itself in the corner of the table.  They faired very badly  :)

The debris in the center actually kept the bloodship out of the fight until the other 2 nautilus' could join in.  It took 2 torpedoes and then finally a barrage from the second ironclad to take it down.  In all, 2 monitor's were left abandoned but not damaged, No other dwarf ships were harmed at all.  All chaos ships were sunk or taken captive along with their admiral.

I am either really good with the dwarf fleet, which is a fleet that I really like.....or I am really bad with the khorne fleet because in 2 battles they have lost badly.  Not that their is any real strategy as I am just playing myself to get through a campaign and its mostly about learning those rules and such.

Just thought I would share!  oh and I do have master engineers and trollslayers on board the 2 ironclads.  I wish I took the time to take a pictures but I was battling my nearly 3 year old for a tape measurer for most of the game  LOL

Thank you everyone on this board for the help getting this game figured out, it really has made this campaign game possible to a full extent and beyond my dreams a year ago!
