Pursuing
« on: August 18, 2015, 10:05:31 PM »
Hi all, new member and new to Warmaster.

Of all the rules, the one that strikes me as odd is how pursuits are allowed time and time again during combat, I would have expected a semi-realistic game like Warmaster (as opposed to Warhammer) to limit this.

IIRC ive read that the "ancient" ruleset actually doesnt allow endless pursuits?

How do you guys treat this rule? Im thinking of houseruling that pursuit is only allowed once but as im new to warmaster I have no idea how this could possible have some for me unseen effect that will complicate the game?

It's not so terrible as it sounds. Just play a dozen of games and you will get it.

Pursuit allows for the need to think and work your battle lines more strategicly before and tacticly during a game. Enemy cavalry drawn into a predefined "soft" spot in the lines may find themselves "trapped" when played properly.

As Bel says, have a go.

Prediction !!
The first couple of games you will be far to eager and let loose the dawgs of war, pursuing all the time, all over the place. Then you will see the light and figure out that sometimes is is better to hold grounds and stand your lines
WMA does limit combat to three rounds though.

Fair enough, you all make good points!

And yes, I have played too little to honestly worry about the rules yet, but upon reading the rules I just found it odd that there was no limit to it.

The adjusted rule in WMA boils down to the law of averages.....
