4th war gaming table - a small review
« on: May 02, 2016, 01:13:09 AM »
Hi guys
Just wanted to share a little review of the 4th War gaming table I got recently. I finally organised myself to have more space to play games at home....

I put the review on Warseer:
http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?417840-4th-war-gaming-table-a-small-review

It is going to be great playing Warmaster and being able to leave the game standing for a while if I can't finish the same day without disturbing the missus too much!

I promise to update when I get my first Warmaster game on this table going on !!!
(those Brets and Araby HAS to be painted soon!)
I really would love to buy some Warmaster Kislev, Araby, Bretonnia, Vampire Counts, Chaos demons ...

For durability you should either line the bottom edges, the edges that the table pedestals stands on, with either a plastic uhmw clip of sorts or even spray paint it with either a rubber coating (best against slipping) or at least just a nice durable paint.

Simple, wont add weight, may effect thickness and bagging it back up though.

Otherwise, my only question is, if you do end up accidentally kicking a table pedestal will it shift under the table top?  Will the bottom of the pedestal be able to kickout completely and fall?  All of the table tops look like they are magnetized together but what keeps the pedestals still?  Maybe add 1 more piece of cardboard to work as a spine to hold them together underneath.  Making suggestions because design is one of the many things I get paid to do so that's how my mind works.  There is also plastic sheets you could make the pedestals out of that would probably endure more, longer.

The smartest space saver that I can think of with a stay at home table is simply a piece of 6x4 plywood that would hinge off of the wall (piano hinges) with a leg that would hinge off of the bottom of the table piece.  But I don't know your apartment dimensions.  Or if you could even use your apartment walls.

image search, your creativity can go from there.  ;)

Hi CJ

You touch upon important points. The idea of reinforcing the parts that touch the ground is not bad.
If I do that I have to do it in the best possible way.
The spray thing sounds intriguing.

Regarding making your own foldable table; well definitely that is possible. But I already have hundreds of unfinished hobby projects so I needed something easy and affordable. Creating one yourself is fraught with peril if you are not a doityourself type.

So in the ideal world yes everyone should do that but if your are lazy or busy (and I am both) quick is the way to go.

Regarding stability it is not technically possible to knock the piedestal. The resting piedestal goes all around and you can't just knock it down.
The are surprisingly stable.

They do a kick test in the Beasts of War video. Seems pretty stable when they do that.

this might be it...

I would only say, there is a material that is the same exact thing as cardboard but it is a corrugated polypropylene sheeting.  That is probably what they should build their legs out of and it would immediately eliminate any "don't get it wet" comments and then they would have gaming gold!  I want to say its probably even lighter and stronger per pound than the ECT (edge crush test) rating they are going with for the cardboard pedestals.

from the video I still do not see how the pedestals are attached to the table top but they definitely are from how they flip them back over after assembling them.  These things are great and even though I don't need it, the arrangements for those 3 tables you can have is fantastic.  If I had them I would arrange them all crazy like just because I could for a warmaster game, add lots of terrain and just do a crazy long march into battle.  :)
