Warhammer Quest Returns

Oh what have they done to Warhammer Quest?!  Of the fifty models in the box, the only ones that I like are the four familiars!

Is this indicative of the style they will take to dusting off old products from their IP vault?  I fear it may be...

I think GW's taken their "Cartoonish" style and taken it just a bit too far. It feels way over the top and too much in most cases of their new releases I have seen. The gritty feel is also gone? I dunno, hard to put a finger on it. Looking at the BB-figures shown I get that same feeling. But it appears to be well recieved by others so it might work for them in the long run. Who knows :)

This game looks great!

Take away the history of Warhammer, pretend you are a new player.
bright attractive colors and crazy monsters straight out of a Guillermo del Toro movie.  Completely separate story line content, etc. etc.
I think I finally see the new light and can just consider this a whole new Games Workshop gaming company.

I would buy this if the models came painted or whatever and looked as good as their playthrough video showed them.

With that said though, the modular dungeon crawl is very expansive and will require a large table that most people just do not have for a dungeon crawl type "broad sell" game like this.  So I'm not sure I would get it for my family.  If I recall, Heroquest was simple and fun for nearly ALL ages.  I had Dragon Strike when I was a kid but same thing and I do NOW have a full Heroquest game and only need to wait a few more years to play it with my son  :) (probably more like 8 years)

Split, since this discussion is worthy of a separate topic.

I think that it's one of GW's best ideas to re-release this game, and while some of the figures are a bit too cartoon like to my tastes as well, the concept is sound and the game looks exciting.  I just wish I could afford the £95 to be able to buy it.

Putting the loss of the old world aside and also not taking my personal preferences into account I agree that GW seems to be doing some interesting moves in better directions than in a long while :)

We have two 13 year olds and one 11 year old at the local gaming club who loves everything about AoS. It seems to be a great gatewaydrug for younger ones or people of any age new to the hobby. Looking at the web it seems to be a few from the "old guard" who likes it too :)

This game will probably become a hit as well for our newer members. The rest of our clubs wargamers are grumpy old men like me ;)

I think the game looks fine for what it is, and I can see it attracting new players. It does nothing for me, however, and that price tag must be discouraging to any true new blood (though misty-eyed vets with their own kids now will make it sell).

I'm surprised at how unimpressed I am with the models- I was thinking this may be something worth getting just for them, and any actual gameplay would be secondary. Unfortunately most models have 1 or 2 poses that are repeated, the 'AoSed' stuff like the 'grotling scuttlers' or 'aelves' are ugly, and the number of models isn't really enough to be useful outside of this game. I'd like to have been able to collect enough Tzaangors for a full Fantasy unit, but at only 3 poses and 6 models per box, a full unit would look dull and eBay box splitters would be wanting my kidneys for the models.

I do like the familiars, and some of the heroes would look fine in a Fantasy army- but its not enough. No doubt AoS fans would have more use for more models, but that's not me.

Very interesting.  Glad to see GW is doing something besides their big 3.  As long is there is good game play I think there is potential.  Some expansions with new heroes could be interesting.  Time will tell I guess.  But like everyone else my heart is in the Old World.

Also, I'm wondering what they will be bringing to the table that's not already met by Descent and Heroquest.  They greatest thing they could bring for me is the Old World.  AoS is just another vague bland fantasy world.

And while 95 pounds is bad, it's cheaper than a single army.  But also significantly more expensive than descent.

I'm hopeful, but don't see myself ever getting it.

Not a fan of the aesthetic personally, there are other more classic dungeon crawlers out there (super dungeon explore, undercity, descent) that I'd rather spend my money on, but GW broadening their game base will be good for attracting more players into the hobby

I'm way more interested in this than AoS because at least this will play well and be a fun game.
