Hello fellow Warmasters around the globe!

Would there be any interest in a Warmaster-event in Sweden during 2017? I am willing to host an international Warmaster-weekend at my local gaming club if there is enough interest. I would find it very entertaining to play and meet members of this forum :)

Some quick info and thoughts on possible event:

Location:
- Gaming Club Armagedon in the city of Borås, Sweden
- Borås is situated 60km from Gothenburg, 40km from Landvetter Airport

Travel:
This will of course be one of the biggest hurdles to overcome. Travelling is never cheap enough.
- Cost for travelling to Sweden - no idea, depends on where you live ;)
- Cost for travelling from Landvetter Airport or Gothenburg - 20/40min by bus. Tickets are about €12
- Travel in Borås will be handled by local participants with cars.

Accomodation:
Second big hurdle to overcome. We have accommodations ranging from free to expensive.
- There is the possibility to bring your own gear and sleep for free at the club. We got toilets and a shower.
- Accomodation for 2 nights starts at about €60 (4 beds in smaller basic room) and upwards.
- Will look for more alternatives if there is interest :)

Food & Drinks:
We will have lots of alternatives to handle this very important question!
- Gaming Club's got a small kitchen so we can have some simpler/cheaper solutions.
- Fastfood like Hamburgers, Pizzas and kebab in the nearby area. €10 per meal
- for the evenings there are some very nice restaurants available. €20-40 per meal + fluids
- We also have some ok pubs that might be of interest. A good beer is about €8-10. (Yeah, I know...)

Still up in the air:
- I think that we could have about 8-10 tables so max 16-20 participants. What would be minimum to keep interest?
- Date? Spring/Summer/Autumn/Winter?
- Arrival on a Friday?
- How many games?
- Basic games or maybe some kind of light campaigny thing?

Anyways - If there is some interest I can start to slowly put this together with input from interested parties :)

Cheers!

I just looked and British Airways fly from Manchester direct to Landvetter Airport.  The only other direct UK flight is from Edinburgh.  So might be possible for UK participants?  Especially those that live in Scotland or the North-West?

I'm pretty sure there are multiple connections out of London as well.

Edit: Yep, there's Stansted, Gatwick and Heathrow.

Edit2: And Cambridge it seems.

Thanks for the steerage.  Odd why those didn't come up on my search.  I'll look again!

Updated info with second airport in Gothenburg. I think RyainAir flyes there.

Edit: they do not. Thanks Aquahog :)

No worries empireaddict. It's a rough night with the Google-fu it seems my friends. mlkr, the other airport closed for commercial airlines a while ago and Ryanair transferred all their flights to Landvetter.

When is the best weather for a visit that would allow the Better Half something to do while we play AND allow us to add days on before or after ?

Fond memories of having a EuroGT in Austra, in a castle that doubled as a SPA

The best time to visit this area of Sweden is by summer I think. June, July, August.

Given time I can put together a list of locations, activities and such to facilitate easier persuasion of SO's :)

@mlkr, some interest here (at least 2 or 3) because it will be easy to fly from Stansted - summer months probably best in 2017 - but without definite dates, we can't commit yet

I'm interested, I've never been to Sweden and I don't think the girlfriend has either. It would be a good excuse to go. Weeks are tough around then though, I could probably do mid-late June, mid-July or early/late August.

I'd be interested in joining the UK contingent, June is always a difficult month for me, but July/August may be do-able... might even have my dwarfs painted by then... haha!

Thanks for interest and feedback :) Looks to me like July & August are the better alternatives so far. Weather in june isnt always that great anyways. But, being Sweden you cant always trust the weather in july/august either ;D

I will have a look at possible dates and present a few alternatives for us. Will also look for good activities around these dates for those who might stay a while before or after event :)

What do you want to do and see apart from the event? Festivals? Culture? Food and drink? Spa-visits? Beach?

Apart from planning the event itself I have gathered some basic information for those who might be interested in seeing a bit more than miniatures during their visit to Sweden ;)

BORÃ…S
http://www.boras.com/en/

The event will be held in the city of Borås. Once a huge center for the Swedish textile-industry and still is but now with less factorys and more offices and shops ;)
- Shopping is pretty good. We have some very nice restaurants and café's and the city centre is pretty easy to stroll around in. Some good outlets open up during summer.
- Hungry or Thirsty? - We have some very nice restaurants, bars and pubs in the city centre so no problems having a nice evening out and about.
- Sightseeing and activities - We have a zoo, actionpark, beach (lake), bathing houses, basic spa's, cinemas, culturehouse with theatre, art gallery and so on. Loads of stuff, but nothing that quite stand out unless you take the car and look outside the city limits.

GOTHENBURG
http://www.goteborg.com/en/

Everything Borås has only bigger and better and also right by the sea bringing some nice features with that of course. About an hour by bus from Borås and you can easily spend a few days there. Also a themepark with a wooden rollercoaster who has won best such contraption 3 times since 2003. Worth a ride! :) Loads of smaller harbours and towns to visit before or after event for a nice trip. Very, very beautifull places!

VARBERG
http://www.visitvarberg.se/10-masten-i-varberg
(apparently no english on site)
If you love the sea and spa's this is the place to visit before or after the event. How about a copy of Lenin's favourite bathing house? ;D I dont know what to say about that but apparently a nice enough experience :)

Gotta go to bed now. Hope this helps people convincing themselves and or their SO's/Family to visit Sweden nesxt summer ^_^
