new beginner

I have been getting really interested in this game (always have been along with BFG).  Where can I find a list of all of the information I should have?  I keep getting confused and just cant understand as all I can find are the SM and ORKS.

This might be a lazy approach to getting the information but I'm hoping this could just point me to an amazing reference I would otherwise not find.

There are a number of different editions of Epic which you could play.  There SM2/Net Epic (see this board for information about that), Epic 40K (third edition), or Epic EA (fourth edition).

The most commonly played edition is EA.  Dave's link provides you with access to the Net EA rules, which a lot of people use, but there's also Epic UK which uses slightly different lists.  There's also a French group too.  You also still have the option, I believe, to use GW's default rules and army lists without the Net EA changes.  As a result, there are a number of different sets of rules out there which you could use.

Which are the easiest/funnest 2 armies to collect?  I keep seeing ebay auctions and fighting myself from buying them.

I just never once touched this stuff. 2 armies to practice with my brother would be enough and add it to my to do list during conventions.

Which army race is never seen at a convention?

Space Marines are both easy to find on ebay and easy to learn with.  However, I've found them to be hard to win with because they need to move fast and hit hard, but can't take it back or hold points well.  Orks are also easy to find, but you'll need a lot of them (they die, a lot).

We get a pretty diverse showing at Adepticon. Marines, IG and Orks are common. Tau, Knights and 'nids less so but still make an appearance. Dark Eldar, AMTL and Lost and the Damned are rarely seen.

I can give you a demo this year, if you like. I've also got some Marine infantry and tank sprues spare too.

I would love a Demo.  When Adepticon gets closer I can let you know what my schedule is like and we can meet up.  Looks like my brother's wife is going to keep him from getting out again this year. 

Bozeman, me and my brother are still trying to meet up at AFK games so maybe when we do I'll let you know and maybe you can show me a game.  Hopefully some time this month.

I'd say Tau, Eldar and Dark Eldar are the ones with the trickiest tactics to get into. That being said, it of course also makes them rewarding to master.

The original Epic Armageddon rulebook had training scenarios after each chapter to help you practice the game. They were Marine vs. Marine but I think some White Dwarf had an article for playing them with IG and Orks as well. No idea what the issue numbering would be in N.A. though. They were published around the game's release in early 2004 in the UK I believe.

Dave, still trying to figure out my schedule for Thursday and then Saturday.  I'm still holding out hope that the brother can make it but its a long shot, high and far over the Monster and into the parking lot.  But if he doesn't go then my family will want to go but its hard to make my wife deal with the 2 kids in a hotel without me.  Even if just the wife comes with me she would be bored as hell all day but it would be nice if just the wife came and hung out.

Eldar are not so tricky in my experience.  Once you realise just how mobile they are, and how quickly they can strike and then pull away again, they become much easier to play than they appear on paper.

I have put the Epic: Armageddon rulebook by my bedside and glued some blast markers I bought ages ago - really itching to learn the rules and do the training scenarios myself - so I say, Godspeed to you!
