White Dwarf returns
« on: June 23, 2016, 10:23:25 PM »
Just saw that white dwarf is returning. I'm wondering what, if anything, that means for specialist games.  If it's just AoS and 40k, I won't be too interested. Still I think it's a step in the right direction.

well this is also assuming it is going to be more than a glorified model catalog which if you remember before they canned the classic WD, that's all it was by that point. =/

As WD is imminently inbound and Specialist Games vNext is still not here, I have to say this means very little to them at this time. Hopefully when they do arrive though we see some content in in the magazine. Heck even saying "hey we got this stuff over here too" would be a pleasant change of pace.
As we Imperials say, "The Emperor [class battleship] Protects..."

Someone handed me a stack of 2004-2007 era White Dwarf mags to peek at before recycling and I was going through them.  They all had sporadic adverts for Spec. Games, especially Epic: Armageddon, but it was really hit and miss, with the emphasis on LOTR setting games primarily it seemed to me.

I would hope that their feverish release cycle for AoS would be a reflection of how frequently they would support a proper SG revival of something like BFG/Epic.

I was never looking for specialist games back then, and I certainly don't remember any.  But I did enjoy the hobby guides and the battle reports back then.

I think I have only kept two, but I was really happy I kept those both.  I can't remember the article numbers, but the one where 6 guys play through the general's compendium campaign, and then also the "lunch hammer" 500 point battle guide.

I guess I'm not holding my breath for too much specialist games stuff, but it would be nice in general for the hobby I would think.

I guess I'm still dreaming of a day when the Old world returns and they bring back Warmaster... a boy can dream can't he?

Well, it never went away, but I know what you mean.
