transportation is a precise business

'tis the 'yellow Snork' part of the yellowline trucking company of transports I have.

here they are all together...

although owned by Jago Kane, founder and operator of yellowline trucks, this high conveyor class transport barge is mostly run and crewed by the miner's guild, mining asteroids and dead planets for minerals and gasses via the extensive launchbays filled with ore-transport and drilling craft.
as the flagship of yellowline, kane himself commands the yellow snork to make sure no underhanded sneakiness or back-alley dealing goes on that's not his own...
proof of the dangerous nature of this work is evident by the small moon that has accidentally been dragged out of orbit by the extensive mass of this vessel and has embedded itself into the port side. now mined and integrated into the very ships systems.

I took two other shots to show other angles but the colour ended up less yellow and the prow less white and more grey for some reason... not enough light I'd say...

for those not in the know this is a conversion of the incredibly talented LordBorak's High conveyor transport barge model. the conversion involves the rather obvious addition of the moon (miliput) and the wings are from an imperial cruiser. there are a triplet of helian laser lances added to the prow and the launchbays are also helian, made by mangozac.

this is the merchant fleet where my system ships I made in the previous post will end up...

I intend to do a second of these but I'm stuck on colourscheme... was thinking of light-grey/dirty white or something all together different... ideas?

damn straight it is. and that's all down to the talented hard work of lordborak. his design and implementation of the high conveyor is a clear labour of love.
for those not in the know see here:
http://www.forum.specialist-arms.com/index.php?topic=8366.msg73873#msg73873
it just deserved a good enough paintjob so I went all out on this. still feel it could have been a bit better but so be it I guess.
I just love how it looks like it fell straight out of a gw bfg catalogue. if you read the armada rulebook there's a bit referring to transports scaling from escort sized up to cruiser sized behemoths. THIS is what I pictured back then. not the cheapo stretched-limo transport cop-outs that fw delivered (yeah I bought a fuel one but I only used one section ;)).
seriously can't say enough good things about this model. I just love it!

go get one!

so what say you on the colour of other one I'm doing?

The colours really make it look industrial, the whole truckers in space feel you were going for basically! Kick ass stuff!

That looks SO much better than mine it's annoying/depressing.  It's also very similar to the colour scheme I was doing on one of mine so I might have to do a few last minute changes to mine.

I feel a bit embarrassed getting that much praise. Thanks though :D

What are the plans for the other one?

Thanks guys. Industrial / 70's sci fi is the look I was going for. The colouscheme is clearly based off of JCB/dewalt/catipillar industrial tools and machinery. Hence the steel chips and rust/grease/soot.

@lordb, I'm sure your ship is just as good as this. I've seen your painting in your thread. Not ashamed to say I feel it's often better than mine. Are you sure you've just not been looking at it too long and gone into over critical mode? I do that a lot.

As for my next one. Seriously guys I need help on a colour scheme! Was thinking dirty industrial Grey's or filthy white van effect.  Other suggestions very welcome...

Filthy white or light grey with red/orange markings would be awesome. Akin to this:

What ever you do, don't do green and white :P

Dark Grey with Gold and white always works but what about deep red and black for Mechanicum/Administratum?

Lols... Sure I'll leave gothic to you. To be honest I'm all red and black ed out after doing that dw strike cruiser. Black is a bit of an in joke with me and the missus. In the past I did an awfully large amount of black minis. Deathwatch, fallen angels, guard, then when I did my inquisition Blackship she was like, 'oh what a surprise, its black!' Well obviously a Blackship had to be black but I think I got what she was saying... As such I've tried to to strecth myself and move away from monochrome where I can and I've still not quite embraced colour fully. At lot of my guard is particularly dark in tone but I suppose that's a style. Anyway I digress. I got to say that red is off the table. If I did it red i would always feel that the one with the moon in should have been red if you know what I mean... Orange is tempting but again it feels like another copout... Why is this so tricky?

right now the idea of the dark grey is feeling tempting because its so easy to make it look good. but good aint great is it?
the whole dirty white is actually quite a challenge as I've actually always struggled with painting white to be honest. just look at that small white transport and see what I mean. I mean yeah I got away with it on that one but a high conveyor is a very large area that leaves very little room for error...  the whole orange stripe thing sounds fun. and orange goes well with industrial grey its true. I can picture a stripe like how vaaish did on those voss cruisers he did for zac.(http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w108/mangozac/BFGothic/Zeus%20Light%20Cruiser/Final%20Pics/zeus-painted.jpg)
I'd love to know how he got such a straight line on such a textured surface of a bfg model. masking fluid? or airbrush trickery? or perhaps its just that he's a steely-eyed painting veteran that makes everyone else look like an amateur by comparison?
I think I need to go away and practice some technical stuff and re approach this after. don't want to funt it up on a rush job now do I?

thanks for the suggestions guys.

yeah I'm done with these now too.

the system-ship sized transports.
I've shown these three scratch-builds with my yellow transport escort and one of the gw system ships (back two) so that people (malika  ;)) can tell the scale a little better.

at first I had them simply yellow/white and dirty but the one directly under the transport escort looked a little shite so I added steel damage and a bit o' rust effect and it looked so much better. I then felt I had to add a bit of this to the others too. gotta say that after that I'm real happy with the result. obviously they look better in the flesh as the gleaming metal catches the light better than a single frame shot shows but I'm sure you can use your imagination on that a bit and just take my word for it I guess...

more soon I hope...

ok been a while but I have been working on stuff:

finally got this squadron of corvettes done for my voss fleet,

the 'Asp' a dauntless class,

'Imperious Patronus' a sister ship to the 'Ex Libre Imperialis' ( simply an excuse to include a tyrant class as I'd not yet done one and I did the prow to match the  dictator I did as they work well together in game.) good god this is a bad photo... :-[
and finally this loony lunar class conversion:

the 'Indominus Aster'

that's not all I've been up to though.

the yellowline trucks have a fuel transport added to the roster.

and I did this transport green, simply for a change from yellow and white!

Your Yellow-white ships are just awesome!
The green one looks awfully flat in comparison, but since that never was the case with your other ships I guess it's just because of the camera lighting?

Thanks. Yeah I'm gonna say yes it's the camera's fault! But in truth it is a bit flat in reality. ( Tis bad lighting though) Twas an experimental colouscheme that I discarded immediately after completion. But thought I'd share to see what response bit got. Now I know I was right to discard any possible follow up on this colourscheme... ;D
