Campaign - Chaos vs. Elves
« on: January 29, 2017, 02:24:33 AM »
Chaos attack HE village in a mountain tile with ME campaign game
Assault – VP’s to chaos for every non-flyer off of High elf table edge
Thunderstorm for lighting strikes to try and confuse, hitting with artillery dice during shooting phases.
Chaos gave first turn to HE

Turn 1 – Elves move out to cover both ways around the mountain.  Chaos fails all orders
Turn 2 – Elves move closer and into defended position on the flank but fail to really get into striking distance.  Chaos is still barely able to move, really only giving away their strategy.

Turn 3 – Elves hit a stroke of bad luck as their commanders need to change plans on the fly and can’t get any troops into position to strike.  Chaos attacks the hill with Chaos knights supported by a sorcerer and the boon of chaos.  Knights lose 1 stand with 1 archer and 1 spearman unit dead.  Knights retire to the inside flank before losing a second stand. No picture
Turn 4 – Elves try to get their Reavers into position to counter attack the knights but fail and that was all for the high elves with orders failing.  Chaos reacts by punching another unit of spearmen with the knights that were only driven back 2 from the Reaver fire.  Warriors of chaos come out from formation on the hill to do damage to Reavers from behind.  The sorcerer joins them and casts the rage of chaos (+9) for 2 stands killed to no chaos casualties, 1 hit shy of killing the Reavers outright.  Now Chaos needs to decide to push for breakpoint or start moving units off the table with their army so far out of position.

Turn 5 – Last turn of regular play.  Elves push back against the warriors with spearmen and the last Reaver stand.  Warriors take 1 casualty and destroy the Reavers and spearmen with pursuit.  The Warriors “Fallback” behind enemy lines, 1 step away from getting off the table.  Dragon Ogres failed to move forward under the general’s whips. General moves to the forward hill to get units off the table.
Game ends on only a “6” but rolled a “4”.
Game continues for 1 turn

Turn 6 – Silver helms finally commit against all odds.  They charge the marauders on the hill with unchallenged rage and wipe out the hill of all that oppose them.  Chaos warriors on initiative move off the table, Knights refuse orders from the general to move off the table, they must have wanted to kill the spearmen ahead of them too much.
Game ends on a “4+” but rolled a “1”.
Game continues for 1 more turn.

Turn 7 – Elves finish off the dragon ogres to their rear and flank giving 1 stand of casualties to the chariots and silver helms.  Chaos reach breakpoint.
A few too many failed orders but they really cancelled out, the game could have gone either way in the end but regardless, the best chaos could do was a DRAW and they would not have gained the mountain tile.  Marauders on a hill with support should have been able to do better but those silver helms were really, REALLY in a mood.  Of 7 turns, only 2 of them had orders successfully reaching the dragon ogres.  So they were completely un-used and the only regret for Chaos during the battle.  In retreat however, the remaining Knights, Warriors and harpies were able to score some successful ambushes against the High elves pursuit while successfully finding a safe route back across the mountains.  For campaign purposes, the elves took 150 points against the chaos rearguard in their pursuit so it is a bitter and costly “decisive victory”.

Awesome! Could you please elaborate on the lightning strikes and the artillery dice?

Pick a target. Roll the artillery dice, one to hit or scatter or misfire and the other has the distance. If it hits a unit you roll 3 dice hitting on fours ignoring armor. If you score a hit the unit is confused.
