Arenautica Imperialis

Not exactly a SG game but definitively a spin off 40k game. Haw anyone played it? I 've been drawn to it when I watched a blue table review and I was wondering can anybody give me a more precise info about the rules & stuff. The models looks outstanding, especially the heavy ork bommerz with tiny gretchin crew throwing bombs :D i just love those details. Also the models are pretty huge compared to the Epic versions of the planes. Those are bigger than titans, bigger than anything on the table.

I've got it and played it a few times using Imperial Navy versus Tau. It's a fun game that I'd recommend, particularly to people who play epic as the toys double up. In terms of rules it's very simple with the movement of planes taking place sort of simultaneously as both players have to choose what each plane does before any movement begins by picking a manoeuvre card. Finding people to play is tricky though so you might need to buy two fleets unless you can convince someone else to buy into it.

I never play It. I think Chaos navy is the most beatiful, I love the ships, but here, in Argentine is too expensive buy FW products...In the other hand, the people that play specialist games only use to play mordheim.
I hope in the future we can play other games like W40.000, the most popular game here.

Bye.

Just in case you want some encouragement - here are my Thunderbolts...

I think I may just have to get a game of this sorted soon.

Those models are truly impressive! The paint is awsome.
Do you use airbrush or something? How do you get the camouflage paint?

Thanks guys. It's not airbrush work (I think it looks smoother in the pictures than in real life!). It's basically several layers of very thin paint. From memory they were painted black, then washed with very thin Space Wolf Grey, then basecoated with thinned commando Khaki about three or four times. Took a while but I think it was worth the time. The models are superb and really called out for a patient paint job.

Thx for the replies guys, my computer crashed so i wasn't able to reply earlier. Those thunderbolts look sweet! I'm getting more and more into the game just by looking at those awesome models. But can you tell me more about the rules? Because FW have a "fame", at least that I have heard, of making strange rules and this is the only game made entirely by them. I don't play wh40 so i don't know how good are the imperial armour books but as a BFG player i know that FW tau rules were discussed a lot.

Thanks for the kind words.   ;D Of course now I'm going to become unstoppable with the pictures! Here are a couple of Valkyries:

As for the game, I've not played it many times (let's say 20 times tops) but it has always been fun and the basic mechanic of the game is very simple but allows for some pretty entertaining tactical play. Playtime is pretty fast which is a bonus for me and the demands in terms of scenery are low (essentially you need a flat table, roughly 6x4 feet). If you can stand the cost of the books then go for it. The books, like most FW books I've seen, are very nicely produced but the core rules could be contained on about ten sides of A4.
