[WM] Fighting the good fight.
« on: July 05, 2010, 06:58:19 PM »
I have not been collecting warmaster as long as many on this and other forums.
I missed out on the great rare alt units.
I missed out on my mates at GW getting the pound for a pound deal on the armies.

All these I accept, I pay over the odds for rare units because I want them in the armies I actually play week in, week out.
I would like a kislev army but until (when, if ever) they get re-released, that will just be a pipe dream.

I have sold armies on eBay that are well painted and well structured and been rewarded financially for doing so.
I admire people who also offer this service as not everyone likes the painting side of the hobby.
I also grudgingly accept that people horde models only to get bored when they have a full collection and sell them on.

But what really hacks me off is gimps selling widely available models and books as OOP.
How many high elf heroes are listed on UK eBay as OOP!
Well today I think we should make a stand.
We all want this game to flourish, GW are never going to re-release the old OOP/rare/alt stuff, no matter how much we plead and beg and show business models on how to do it in a cost-effective manner.
But people who sell the regular stuff as OOP at inflated prices to people getting into the hobby are crooks.

So do your bit!
If you see a listing on eBay that is marked as rare or OOP when you know it isn't, report it!
That way, newcomers get a better deal, we may get a few more players to the game and we may all just get those rare models we all so desperately want to complete our collections.

Cheers
Mick

I can only second this, even if GW was not monitoring sales of models on Ebay, the overinflated pricings on NORMAL units are a bad way to gain new blood.

I think as  you guys. where is best place to list the overprizes people, in this forum?

I always get also irritated with the high prices of oop. It is normal as it how the market is, but sometimes I feel the prices are exagerated so I am figuring I will never have some units. Maybe swaping oop could work, but also I have some not very satisfactory experinces in this way.

It is just a hobby so I will try to not get exited because the are very more important things in life.

Agreed.

I have seen a few things like HE spearmen which are blisters with sculpts that are OOP even though other sculpts of the same unit aren't. But usually it's a straight-up in-print available blister that someone is trying to hawk for more than even GW is retailing it for. Often with the "clearance: $4.50" stickers still on the blister.

This hits newbies the hardest. They don't know what the minis go for these days, they don't know where to buy, and they are the ones who are looking to collect O&G, HE and Undead (armies which longtime players tend to have long since bought).

(I don't mind the high prices on the genuinely OOP units; if the price is too high for you then you don't have to pay. I missed out on some Dragon Princes that way, but what can you do?)

This all said, I was fairly happy to see the 2000 point painted Demon army go for 236 pounds -- it looked like a really nicely-painted army.

I thought it would have fetched a little bit more.
It was a very well executed army.

Agreed. Put it this way: I'd have felt very guilty about winning with my punt of 110.

Exhibit A: Someone takes the main Warmaster book, labels it OOP and sells it for $65 buyout on Ebay. It currently retails from GW at $45 and regularly goes on auction used for a third of that. Not to mention, of course, that you can download the thing for free. Completely unbelievable.

I LOVE telling uninforned sellers on evilbay about their "OOP" stuff. I saw an "OOP" 25mm LOTR Bilbo listed once a couple months ago for a starting price of, something like $60..although still available from GW directly for ..15? Rediculous..More to the point, would everybody with genuine OOP WM stuff for sale, please sell them to me for really cheap, you know..as a conisour? Thanks

I can not belive it, some ebay user ... is selling 30 figures of pendraken with a starting price of 4.99 L. what is amazing is that pendraken sells them (30 figures) at 3L.

If you compare with GW prizes and do not see the pendraken catalogue 4.99 seems to be ok, but is not very polite, in my opinion.

Well I would say it this way....

If you want something ... no matter the topic (it could be for the hobby, for sports, a new TV set, a diswasher heating) ....you normaly are starting to compare price.

At least that´s what I do. I go in the shop and look what´s available, what´s covering my needs and what fits best the price range the I can/want to afford.

Then I´m starting to investigate and to see where I can get it for the best price (price does not allways mean money allone. It contains for me the whole package) Finally I decide where to buy it....if I really want it.
That´s probably the reason I will never get a WM Kislev army.....even the standard GW price shruggs me off when considering how much units I need for building up a 3.000 pts army (especially if it is for Skaven)

I would assume that most of the players/hobbyists starting to play/collect the warmaster range are doing the same and finally they probably stumble around the producer web page where they could get all this information.

If they are not doing so ...you can´t really help them.

Of course I fully agree that I also don´t like guys flagging item on e-bay as OoP when it is not true and items still available for purchase. But again.....if you are buying on e-bay.... you clearly should check what you are buying and if the information provided by the seller is a correct one.

Just my 2 cents

Regards
Claus

OK, fighting the good fight.  I reported 3 auctions this morning for selling undead blisters marked as "OOP".

I bought two of these supposed OOP books at a local used bookstore for $7 each. I think these game scalpers are infact people that know absolutely nothing about the game but are taking advantage of the small market and zero support from GW by inflating prices. Its pathetic really. When I was getting in about 2 years ago I asked the few people that I knew who played what prices I should be looking for and subsequently paid $7 per blister for my first army of Dwarves!!! Thank goodness I knew some warmaster players.

Also for the record I hate the guy that is trying to pass off Mighty Armies (15mm) stuff as in scale with warmaster. What a dillhole!
